hi there i hope you can help me figure out and fix this problem.

my girlfriends sister's laptop recently broke so her father decided to boot it to its original state although on restart it loads to setup is starting services then an error pops up saying the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.

i have tried using startup repair which doesnt work.
i have tried booting to factory settings myself and after the second loading screen finishes it restarts and opens with a blue screen.
ive also tried using the back up disc i burned from my own laptop which doesnt work and just takes me to the windows recovery options.

unfortunately i am not sure what error i am receiving on the blue screen as it dumps the physical memory and restarts pretty quick although the first time i did it had the IRQL driver not less or equal error. this came up once and i havent seen it after trying another factory restore.

i assume their has been a problem when installing the OS but im not too sure due to the driver error when restoring.

if anyone knows what the problem is i would appreciate all the help possible unfortunately i have to go to college atm but i will be back this evening 5 or 6pm (gmt) so if possible please leave and comments or questions and i will reply to them asap. thanks

p.s it is running on a box standard acer aspire 5332 windows 7 not sure any other specs, i am running on the same aspire serious although i am on 5532 so if you want i can run the system specs on this and they may be similiar.

This all sounds like a hardware problem and there is nothing anyone can do for you IF IT IS a hardware problem.

First download a drive diagnostic program and check the drive for errors.
Then get MemTest86+, the USB flash version, load that on a USB stick and check the memory.

Post back with what you find or don't find.

All depends on how big the HDD is and how fast your CPU is. Although the size of the HDD matters more. HDDs can only run at a certain speed no matter how fast your PC is.

quick update: tried restoring the factory settings usually i get bsod at setup is starting services with irql, well this time i got too setup installing devices got through to 100% then i got the bsod i loaded compmgmtlauncher and there is no errors which i think is wierd because before there were maybe 10 or so but anyway it restarted and it loaded to preparing your computer for first use or something before the unexpected error popped up. gonna try startup restore see if it finds anything
edit: didnt find anything so will retry booting to factory settings

ok ran a memtest for 19 hours and 50 minutes came back with no errors
where should i go from here?
i was looking into bsod errors reports for irql and noticed there is usually a .sys file associated with it, how can i find out what driver is causing the problem(if it is a driver that is) and if i find and disable it can i bypass it to reinstall windows so i can update it? if this isnt the problem then fair enough but where do i go from here?

Ok you downloaded the Drive Fitness Test ISO, right?
This file.
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/downloads/dft32_v416_b00.iso

And then you created a BOOT CD from that ISO file, right?

Then you inserted that CD into the CD/DVD drive of the system that is having the problem and booted the system from that CD, right?

And you read the users guide from this link, right?
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/downloads/Dft32_User_Guide_415.pdf

What I find real funny is in the guide it says Intel Chipsets are NOT supported. WHAT the most widely used drive controllers are not supported.
I can't figure out if they mean SCSI controllers or IDE/SATA with or without AHCI enabled.

If you did all the above did you get any setup screen where you choose your hard drive?

Please post back with answers.

Did you get the OS re-installed?

Was this from the disk or re-install to factory settings?

Since memtest86+ passed, I'll assume that it is running, have you had any crashes/BSoDs?

Post this information whether or not you have had a BSoD since the re-install, it will give us other information.

Can you start the computer in safe mode?

Then download TDSSKiller and run it in Safe Mode, as long as you can keep Safe Mode open for 30 seconds, it should be enough to run TDSSKiller and remove it.

This rootkit causes blue screens with a IRQ not less or equal stop code. Usually blaming the iastor.sys driver as the cause.
It starts by blue screening or freezing on random programs, then when booting to Normal Mode, then when you try to boot to Safe Mode. Eventually it will allow no access at all.

Re-installing Win7 will not get rid of this rootkit.

FYI,
iaStor.sys is the driver for Intel Matrix Storage Manager.

no i cant start the computer at all due to restoring to factory settings when a turn it on it loads. and stops at setup is starting services, then a box pops up saying unexpected error press ok to restart installation and from their it just loops. if i try load in safe mode it gets to same spot and says windows cannot continue in safe mode.

I'll check around for more info, you might want to consider, as a last resort, to get a new HDD and then install the OS. At least your girlfriends sister will have a working laptop again.

This is a nasty rootkit and will need to be removed before proceeding.
If you want to wait, I'll find some more options.
