Windows 7 Crushes Vista.

I know that gamers have dropped Vista in droves. The Steam hardware survey has Windows 7 64-bit in second, 32-bit in fourth, with Vista 32 sandwiched in between. #1 is of course, XP.

I dunno why really. Once Vista was out for a little while, and proper drivers were being released, Vista was no worse for gaming than XP was, at least for me. Sometimes it was even a little bit better. :sarc:

I am slowly starting to move my corporate network to Windows 7...5-10 PCs and laptops at a time.

I skipped Vista. Too many horror stories from home use...let alone for corp use.
There is simply more software and drivers compatible with XP...and XP is a solid desktop OS for business.
What business user needs all the flash and flair?

That being said...I had to have the first 7 PC at work, naturally...so I could test on it.
Haven't looked back since.

I have compared vista SP2 to windows 7 on my spare machine now.

vista SP2 is a massive improvement over vista RTM and feels almost as fast as windows 7. What lost public support on vista is how bad the RTM was (released too early), vista is essentially fixed now but mud sticks and the name is already damaged.

I would agree with you...I jumped in Vista early and it was horrible.
Didn't give it a second thought....

There are some great features for business users, specifically snap to and the snip it tool and the aero preview.
While none of these things are ground breaking...they are just eye candy for users and it helps them navigate around a little easier and more quickly.

While I will give Jimbo his due on the business outlook...I have to also say that this is a broken system that has one major flaw: security.

First off let me point out the fact that these business apps require XP to be able to run (only compatible). Why on earth would a business bank on an app that is apparently not even being updated to run on other OSs? Is the app being updated at all? Security.

Secondly no one can argue that Vista and 7 (more so 7) are way more secure than XP. The fact that businesses stick with running XP right now is the same as me going down to the local casino and betting my bank account. I thought businesses avoided risks like the plague but they are willing to take a chance against the millions of hackers out there?:sarc:

The truth of the matter is that it does come down to money...but not in the sense that its to costly. It is because IT budgets are still siphoned before other departments to prevent a lower bottom line. Corporate leaders/execs are so worried that they may end up losing a few bucks each year, they end up putting security threats in the back of their mind.

In my opinion...staying with XP in the business world is suicide

PS Want a chilling thought? We all know XP is very buggy...make sure to ask the hospital that is using a XP machine to monitor your vitals/manage your dosage/breathing machine/etc to switch it for a 7 machine. Oh wait...it would cost the hospital to much to do so
