I just setup a mirrored volume with 2 hard drives, copied 1TB of data over and everything was smooth, it showed up as Healthy Mirror.

However i got a BSOD sometime after (unrelated) and the computer shutdown unexpectedly.

Now in disk management the mirror says "resynching" on both drives, it seems to have started from scratch for some reason.

This resynch happens every time the PC is shutdown unexpectedly, i switch off properly but if it ever shutdowns incorrectly the whole mirror will rebuild itself.

Is this normal?

From my limited experience with software RAID, that seems normal, considering it was an unexpected shutdown. The drives are just verifying with each other to maintain the integrity of the data.

they're fine now, was just overclocking but everything is stable.

so in the future if an unexpected shutdown does occur, i will have to wait for several hours for the raid to rebuild itself.
