Hello All

I have recently upgraded my ECS nvidia/gf8100vm-m5 to your GA-MA785G-UD3H (rev. 1.0) motherboard.
I have a few questions.
1) When I first started the system up everything seem to load up automatically, and I have not needed to reformat windows7x64. However the boot process is very slow compared to the ami bios I had before, and there does not seem to be any fast post option like the more simple ami bios. It seems to boot ok but then hangs slightly at DMI pool data, then boots into windows very slowly. On the old chipset it booted within 15seconds! And with the fast boot option you could skip the full system check.
2) So is there any fast boot option in the award bios?
3) I have reseated all conections, should I reformat windows?
4) I have two Hitachi sata HDT7210108SLA360 HARD DRIVES, What settings would suit these best, it all seems much more complicated in this award bios, as in the ami you could just set boot sata and disable ide. Making it boot slightly quicker. I notice there are many more options in the award, but it all seems very complicated.
5) Can I cross fire the on board ati 4200 graphics with the hd 4650 graphic card? And do I need to set this in bios?
Many thanks for taking the time to read this, I look forward to your responses.
Update!...I have now reformated, and reinstalled, still same problem please any one ?

When replacing a motherboard, always clean install without exception.

Disable all unused ports in the bios such as parallel, serial, com, floppy etc...

Enable quick boot if there's a setting for that.

Thankyou

I have reinstalled windows7x64 now but the problems persist!
Thanks for the bios tips, this board uses an F4 award bios. There does not seem to be any quick post option.

One thing i have noticed is the mb has a 2x4pin 12v connector, my old one had a 1x 4pin, how I thought this was for more expasion options.
I think this might be the problem some one tell me if I am wrong?

I will be buying a similar mobo:

1) Disable legacy usb support

2) Disable floppy support

3) Set your hard drive as the first boot device and set the second, third, fourth to none

4) Make sure you plugged your hard drive into SATA_0 and set the controller to its default - IDE

5) Leave the other SATA controller to default.

Thank you Frostmourne,
I will try your sugestions, I would steer clear of gigabyte if I was you. I posted my questions to there tech support 3 times 1 week ago, I have heard nothing! Not even and automated email! And the dealer is being very un helpful to.And there is no customer support phone number.

It is connected to SATA_0.
but it shows as IDE Channel 2 Master.Im confused as its a sata hard drive not an ide.
Will Disabling legacy usb support effect usb use, as I will be using usb?
sorry I have never fitted a mb before, what do mean by and set the controller to its default - IDE? I can not see any such option. the AMI bios was much more simple.
Many thanks

IDE is fine - its SATA. You mean Channel 1/Channel 2 master or just channel 2?

Disable legacy support will not load usb drivers on bootup. Try that. The controller can be set to AHCI or IDE, just make sure its set to default. As for support, I received info within 4 days. I'll be going with Gigabyte.

Thanks for your quick response, are you in the usa, as I am in the uk, maybe there support does not reach us! The mb looked like it had the best spec for what I needed, but there are just to many options for me as a novice, and its not plug and play! I do not need to overclock, its for a HTPC.
Well you probally know there ARE 6 sata ports. But 8 show in the standard cmos features.
I expected to show the SATA_0 as IDE channel 0!
but its like this
IDE CHANNEL 0 MASTER NONE (THESE MUST BE FOR REAL IDE DRIVES)
IDE CHANNEL 0 SLAVE NONE
IDE CHANNEL 1 MASTER NONE (IF I PUT THE SATA IN SATA_2 IT SHOW HERE)
IDE CHANNEL 1 SLAVE NONE
IDE CHANNEL 2 MASTER HDT7210108SLA360(SATA_0)
IDE CHANNEL 2 SLAVE HDT7210108SLA360 (SATA_1)
IDE CHANNEL 3 MASTER CDR0M (SATA_5)
IDE CHANNEL 3 SLAVE NONE

ALTHOUGH NOTE IN THE ADVANCED CMOS SETTINGS UNDER
FIRST BOOT DEVICE I HAVE IT SET TO
1ST BOOT DEVICE HARD DISK (THE OS IS HERE)
2ND BOOT DEVICE HARD DISK (THIS IS A SLAVE)
3RD BOOT DEVICE CDROM

IS THAT ALL CORRECT?

I WILL GO FOR THE ASUS IF I END UP SENDING THIS BACK! ALTHOUGH THEY DO NOT DO A 785G CHIPSET IN FULL ATX.

This is driving me crazy it must be a dodgy board. As it seems to work some times and some times not.Think i go for a msi board and try get a refund.

It hangs on dma pool data then takes 3/4 minutes to boot into windows 7.
So far I have have
Reset bios
taken bios battery out
Reset optimised and safe defualts
striped the machine of all components 1 by 1
when i put it all back together i refomated the drive again!
Then it worked great a few times then sudedenly started doing it again. It must be a fault bios chip.
It already has the latest safe bios, but I have flashed too.
What do i do i am pulling my hair out.

Connect one hard drive to SATA_0, then autodetect it. Disconnect other hard drives.

Thank you it still does not work.

Can you tell me another brand with a similar spec am2+ ddr2 785g chipset, or is the 790chipset faster booting? The 785 is the latest one right?
The dealer has offered a refund at last.

Unless you want to Crossfire games, a 785G chipset is fine. You'd also want an AM3 board. There are little differences in chipset - the 790 has a heatsink around the socket for better overclocking performance. I'd switch to another model - I will be purchasing a Gigabyte MA 785GT-UD3H - AM3 socket, support for up to 16GB DDR3 1333MHz, and it covers the basics with 6 SATA ports.

I sent back the Gigabyte in the end, to much time wasted on it! I was to put off by that brands lack tech support, not even a phone number on there site.

But thanks for all your kind help guys. Got my Asus one today fitted and working within 2 hours. No problems.Boots in seconds.
