Windows 7 doesnt start - sid changed

I was installing a program... i didn't knew what
changing the 'sid' would do ... apparently it did that during installation ... and now i cannot start my Windows at all. Please help!!

Can u tell me how to fix this? - i tried using 'System Recovery Options' and :

1- Startup Repair, doesn't work (it isnt able to find & repair)

2- System Restore, wont let me restore it at any restore points.

3- System image recovery , doesn't work.

4- Windows Memory Diagnosis, doesn't resolve anything.

5- Command Prompt -> well i was hoping to fix the thing from here. But i don't know how? How can i use this command prompt (what commands) in order to fix this?

When i open it, it starts like this: X:\windows\system32> .... why is a 'x' instead of a 'c' ?

Any suggestions? Help please!

Hello Erind. It sounds like your System Repair is going to an internal ram disk. You might see if this tutorial helps solve your problems. When you get to Step 11 it goes into more detail about using the "X:\" special provision of the command prompt.

marsmimar, u r so great to have answered to my problem... and i really appreciate that.

The things is, that now: when during reboot process when i press F8 and a black screen comes up with some main options... i cant find the 'Repair your computer'
option. If i cant start the all thing from there how am i supposed to do sth else in order to get the 'command prompt screen' showing?

Why before i read your answer it showed up and now it isnt? - because i managed to do some foolish things on my on... cuz no answer was there meanwhile... and apparently i messed things up. I'm such an idiot

Here is what i did myself: (at that moment i was able to access the option called 'repair your computer' from where i got the following)
1- at 'System Recovery Options' i went to 'Command Prompt' (the other alternatives didn't worked).
2- the usual window appeared except it started with x:\windows\system32>
3- i started typing x:\windows\system32>bootrec.exe
And some explaining stuff appeared...fixmbr ; fixboot ; scanos ; rebuildbcd ;
4- i did this x:\windows\system32>scanos and i believe that i remember from the lines that my windows was located in the D: drive. How is that possible, cuz before this problem showed up (refering to being unable to start windows) it was normally located on the C: drive. That why i did the following...
5- x:\windows\system32>bcdedit /export c:\bcd_backup it said was succesfull. Then i did the following
6- x:\windows\system32>c: (enter) it changed to c:\>
7- i typed c:\>cd boot (enter) it changed to c:\Boot> then i type
8- c:\Boot>attrib bcd -s -h -r nothing happened
9- i continued c:\Boot>ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
10- c:\Boot>bootrec /rebuildbcd its exactly after this that it showed me that my windows was located in D: drive. And i thought that by pressing y after that all this would have fixed my problem. it said 'the operation completed successfully'
11- c:\Boot>exit and i exited from there... i pressed 'Restart' option at the
'System recovery options' window.
I waited it to restart... and no success... again that blue window with a lot of writings in it. So i tried again to go there during reboot - pressed F8 and the
'Repair your computer' option was no more. I felt like sh**.

And i immediately go to the pc and check about my posted thread here... and i see that someone did respond & gave the steps to follow... but too late

Welcome Erind to the windows 7 forums.

Based on what you have written so far, you probably have a completly mucked up laptop. I recommend that you use the Dell Inspiron N5110 disks that you either received with your laptop or were prompted to make when you first received your computer.

Outside of that, I recommend that you give dell a call with your service tag number and get a replacement or set of disks to restore your system.

I read where you can't restore your system from an image? can it be assumed that the image you created was on an external drive? If so then restoring your hard disk should work without any big aggrivation by booting a windows disk in your dvd drive.

That's true. After all the things that happened to it, i'm sure if it had a mouth to speak for sure 'it' would have got some real stuff to say to me ... most of them not good

I do care about my laptop... i care about the stuff inside too.

I want to recall that, of all the things i tried and did not function till now, is that i learned that my windows is located on the D: drive now... so things can be recovered somehow.

My situation is this:
1- my windows crashed apparently cuz of accidental sid change
2- before i could reach with F8 the 'Repair Your computer' option - in order to go to the 'Command Prompt' option, now i cant.
3- how do i get to show the command prompt window on my screen so that i can do some real attempts to fix my problem.
4- i do not have any disks, nothing of such thing happened to me before.

So this is all... i do not know what to do... i'm waiting & hoping that someone will tell how to resolve my problem in my conditions. Thnx. Keep up the good work.
