Hi,
This is my first post, So sorry if ive screwed up somewhere ;)

Anyway, I have windows 7 Home Premium 64BIT installed,
And My Dvd Drive has randomly Stopped Working, It worked Since Windows 7 was released, But has just randomly stopped working the other day.

It shows up its fine in the device manager, And shows up in My Computer, But when i insert a disc, Nothin Happens..
Well, Different Things happen..

I tried Putting In CodWaw: And it comes up as a UDF and when i click it, Windows explorer just stops working, as soon as i eject disc, It goes back to normal.
I have tried other discs, But they just act as there are none in, And ask me to insert one.
Its not my disc drives fault, As i have tried another drive, And its the exact same problem, I have also updated driver.
Any ideas..?
Thanks Alot,
-Darian Barr

P.S. - It shows that i have a Floppy drive, When i dont.
And the dvd drive is ( F: )

I am sorry to say that I can not help with your problem but I have a very similar one. Movies, Music and Windows 7 install CD/DVDs work, but any other install CD/DVDs wont, it is very frustrating. From what my computer guy said however, It is not a registry problem, hope that is any help at all

Recommended course of action is to see whether your optical disk has any firmware updates from whoever its manufacturer might be, as there seem to be a fair number of folks reporting (generally older) drives which fail to work correctly under Windows 7, even if the drive worked during setup.

If Microsoft have missed drivers out there may be allowances made in W7 SP1, but I doubt they'll be made available as regular updates if history is anything to go upon.

Some E-IDE drives, especially DVD rewriters, need to be on a dedicated ribbon cable of their own as master in order to work.

SATA drives may also require the latest motherboard/AHCI/Sata controller drivers to be installed in order they're properly recognised.
