Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and I have a peculiar problem.

My Windows 7 DVD will not load on my PC. My DVD drive is fine (it will read or load any other DVD that I care to throw at it)

My disc is OK as it can be read on any other PC that I care to put it in.

The PC that I am trying to load it on to is running Vista Home Premium at the moment.

Can anyone help please?

We need to know the exact error message and symptoms at the time of failure.

Try booting from the Win7 DVD and use Custom Advanced drive tools to Delete, create New and Format the drive.

You need to have your files backed up and it would be good to have your Vista recovery disks although Acer could mail them to you if you should ever need to recover to factory condition, which you shouldn't.

Sorry, I'm not trying to load it on my Acer. I'm trying to load it onto my Desktop which is custom built.

All that happens is the DVD drive light flashes constantly. This also happens if I try to boot from the DVD.

If I try to load from Vista the DVD drive in 'Computer' does not even show the DVD in the drive.

You said that the DVD was readable in another optical drive? See if it will boot in that same OD.

If so, swap that OD into your build to try to boot to install Win7.

You can also format a flash drive primary and load files into its root to boot from Boot Menu under "Hard Drives".

The other drive that I have is in my laptop.

The drive (or PC) that is giving me the problems will read and load any other DVD that I put in it, so I'm assuming that the drive is OK

Hi Spig welcome to windows 7 forums,
Question Spiggy, did you change your boot order in the bios?
If you can access the bios change the boot priority to the dvd as booting first.
And then reboot with your windows seven disk in your drive.

I have tried booting from the DVD (after changing the boot order) and get the same symptoms and it just sits waiting for the boot record in the bios screen.

The DVD drive is an IDE drive and as I have said it works perfectly (as does the PC) with any other DVD.

Will it boot and proceed with install in your laptop?

This would mean that the burn is good, and the OD in your build seems to be good, too.

Must be BIOS settings.

No problem on the laptop.

I've also checked the Bios settings on my Desktop and they seem OK. I can boot from a Vista installation DVD on the desktop no problem

Replace the drive and the problem will almost certainly go away. It's sad, but some drives just will not read certain discs, no matter what you do. The drive may be fine for all other uses but that drive and that specific disc won't work.

Another possibility would be to make a copy of the Windows 7 DVD on your Laptop if it has a DVD burner. The copied disc may work okay. Worth a try.

Yes the drive is questionable.

Plus the symptoms cannot rule out a bad DVD burn. Did you burn it, and how was the ISO supplied?

I did not burn the disc. It is a purchased legitimate copy. Perhaps I'll try Ztruker's suggestion and copy it.

Watch this space.

Nice One ZTruker.

Copied the DVD and it works just fine in my desktop.

Another one of those things I s'pose:confused:

+1 Awesome!

Ztruker do you know what is going on there with that fix?

Dirty, scratched - how could it not run yet copy?

Just askin...

Must be something to do with the way the laser is aligned in the drive and how the one on the (commercial) burner was aligned, it just doesn't read that particular disc right.
