windows 7 email set up

hello there,
i have recently upgraded to a new computer running windos 7. I am having trouble migrating mu email account .iaf file, and messages into windows 7.
I managed to get the favourites from the old computer.
I have searched online and everything says to go to windows live mail, click file> import> messages and for the account file>options>accounts.

the problem is the file menu is not like that. When i click the file menu, there is an option of import and export, and the only options are importing favourites, feeds or cookies, so i cant browse to a memory stick where i exported the data from the old computer. And there is no options tab in there.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Hello Andrew, and welcome to Seven Forums.

In Windows Live Mail, it would be Tools>Accounts instead to import accounts.

there does not seem to be an accounts option under tools.Not sure what i am doing wrong, but it is frustrating.

nothing like that Brink. I opened your link, and that is where i downloaded the program from originally. After i sign in there, the screen does not change at all, so none of the drop down menus are the same. I can get to an inbox, but he drop downs are not there, and it looks nothing like your example.

Just to be sure, this is not the website access for Hotmail. It is the separate Windows Live Mail email client program used to access your Hotmail instead.

When you first open Windows Live Mail open, press Alt + M and click on Show menu bar to see if it does afterwards.

it may actually be that, though i got there from a link in one of the demo videos from windows 7. I feel kinda dumb now, but i keep getting back to the same place. I tried uninstalling and re downloading it, but i am still in the same place. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how do i get to the correct site, if everything i try to do using "windows live mail" takes me to the wrong place ?

Andrew,

If you could, go ahead and post some screenshots of what you are seeing instead. Be sure to cut/white out any personal information in the image first though. This will better help determine what may be happening.

Sorry for the delay in responding, we had some sort of problem and as a result, need to get a new motherboard. I am on my work computer at the moment.
In trying to rectify problems, windows was reloaded, so i will get another chance to get things right.
all i need to do is make sure i get to the right place and install the correct program.
Any tips on that?
I am guessing, if anything comes up referring to hotmail, just leave that alone, right ?

Sure thing. You would just download (Download button at MS site) and run the wlsetup-web.exe file from either link below, then select Windows Live Mail to install. Afterwards, you would just set it up with your email account information.
