Hi,

Hope this is the right section instead of performance management etc.

How can you stop/configure windows 7 (I'm using professional) so that if you are downloading files just by standard IE it doesn't go to sleep or into standby until all network activity has finished?

Yes, I could set it to high performance but that means the pc would stay on all night and I'd have to use either a schedule or 3rd party app to shutdown at a predetermined time.

What I'd really like to do is make sure windows 7 doesn't think it's idle UNTIL it finishes any network activity like completing a download.

I really like windows 7 but just need to iron out some niggles............

OK.. Here is some trick, try that it may work..

go to device manager, select your network adaptor, right click and go to properties. under power managment tab make sure "allow this device to wake the computer" is selected.. try that

Yes, I've been looking at that - what I have also done is unticked the 'Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer'.

So hopefully, network activity will stop it entering sleep/standby. Just need to do some tests now.

Thanks.:geek:
