Windows 7 ESATA WILL NOT WORK

y Computer is built on a Asus M4n78pro Motherboard, I have 6 Sata plug 4 are colored red (Numbered 4,3,2,1) 2 are colored Black (numbered 5 &6) My hard drive is pluged into # 3 sata,,, CD/DVD Burner into #1'''and the computer case Esata plug into #3.
It has Nvidia GeForce 8300
& Sata 3.0GB/s Raid Running on Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit

I have a second Hard Drive install with windows Vista Bit.This Hard drive I Have In the computer BUT IS NOT CONNECTED nor POWER TO IT .I only use The drive with seven on it, sometimes I unplug The 7 drive and plug in the vistadrive, and use it)

I have a Rocketfish External hard drive enclosure that has ESATA and USB2.0. I installed a Seagate 750 Gig Drive in it (can take up to a 1TB Drive)

Here is my problem.
I can only use the external hard drive in USB mode, It will not work when I plug it up thru ESATA
The screen goes Blank ( Like The Blue screen of death) I have to disconnect esata and reboot to get back into windows.

This result also happen when I try ESATA in vista also. Only works in USB their also

My device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controller shows this

ATA Channel 0

This leads me to think that maybe my AHCI driver is not working
I download the NVIDIA AHCI And NVIDIA SATA RAID from ASUS but can’t install them darn things It Has no setup file

Anyone have and Ideas on what I need to do to get my Esate to work.

NVIDIA_AHCI_SATARAID_XPVistaWin7\RAID\Driver\AHCI\Win7_64, in that extracted directory, is a file called nvstor64.inf. That is the file that you need to install for AHCI.
You can install it two ways:
Right click and select install.
or
Device manager, select controller, update driver (have disc) and point it to the nvstor64.inf.
This method is the one I prefer because I have some control.
Reboot and remember to set controllers in BIOS to AHCI.

The raid is nvrd64.inf in other folder

Also before you attempt any of this, set a restore point, better to be safe.

I have set HDD mode to AHCI mode because I would like to hot plug SATA HDD. However, when I tried to hot plug a SATA HDD, my system crashed and gave me a BSOD. How do I resolve this issue?


This is probably caused by the power fluctuation on the SATA HDD power wire. Some power supplies come with multiple SATA power connectors on one power wire. With this type of wires, when you hot plug the SATA HDD power, a sudden voltage drop may occur on the SATA power wire due to the additional loading from the newly plugged HDD. Operating system would detect this power instability, and execute the self-protection action (BSOD) to avoid further damage to the HDDs. To work around this issue, please use a separate, dedicated SATA power wire for the HDD with OS. This would avoid the SATA power fluctuation on the HDD with OS when you try to hot plug.

Now since your external is the one giving you the problems, it should have it's own power. What are you running for a PSU? I posted this because, there might be some connection, at this time that's all I have for now.

ESATA Not working

Sanvean That was good thinking on the install info on the AHCI driver, I will give It a try. I assume that the drivers are on the win7 install upgrade CD. Is that Right.

Also I Had the BSOD when I turned on the externial HD. Got the BSOD. This was caused by the wrong value setting in the Register Here what I did

• Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
• If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
• Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci

• In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
• In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.

On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry [FONT=&quot]


Then I went to BIOS and changed the setting from SATA Mode to AHCI mode

rebooted and I was able to plug in the external HD and did not get the BSOD anymore.
Thought all was well, But still my externial would not show up on my Computer, Trying under Esata, But again It would show up when plugged it up thru USB

I thinking Now I need to get the AHCI driver installed or updated [/FONT]

Solved I installed a Vantec Sata/Esata PCI Host card. Now My esata external HD shows up everytime and woks fine . Thanks for the reply

Esata In windows 7

I now Have my ESATA plug on my computer Case working And took out my PCI ESATA card
Here Is what I did


ESATA Driver Install

Make restore Point
Back up Register

Open Regedit

· Exit all Windows-based programs.
· Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
· If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
· Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE System
CurrentControlSet
Services
Msahci
In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry
Reboot and enter The Bios setup
Under Storage Config

changed the setting from SATA Mode to AHCI mode

Exit Save changes (F10)

Windows & will Install Driers on Vista do the BELOW (do It on windows 7 If It does not do it automatic)


Put NVIDIA driver Folder on Desktop

go to control panel System

Click on Device Manger Click IDE ATA/ATAP Controler

Right Click Standard AHCI Serial ATA Controler
Click Update Driver Software

Click on install and Direst it to the desktop folder that you put their with the drivers in it

PATH Example USERS\computer name\desktop\NVIDIA SATA Raid\Raid Driver\AHCI
