Posted this on Neowin also but no harm posting it here:

Hi,

I have the RTM version of Windows 7 which i installed on a newly created partition, the install failed and then the rollback subsequently failed and hung.

I have since deleted the partition I planned to install Windows 7 on, however it still exists when i reboot my computer and constantly tries to install itself.

I found one Knowledge Base Article on Microsoft Support but it pertains to Vista instead of XP and the commands it lists do not work in XP.

All im trying to do is get my PC to forget the Win 7 install so when i reboot my pc it goes straight into XP and not the Windows 7 install loop but i cant find anyway to do it.

One point to note I booted from the XP cd and tried FIXMBR when it came up to select which Windows install i wanted to fix it said that Windows was on D: when it is on C: ?

My PC is set up with 1 hard drive and 2 partitions

C: -- Windows XP
D: -- Partition for programs etc

I -- This was a 30gb partition made for Win 7 however i have since deleted this partition and moved the free space back to D:
