Windows 7 "failure configuring windows updates Reverting Changes"

Ill give you the whole break down If anyone can pleasseee help.

At first my HP laptop froze as I was shutting down. So I manually turned the computer off by holding the power button. Upon turning the laptop back on, I got a message saying windows is updating, but once it got to about 35% it pretty much froze and refused to continue updating or anything. So I again manually switched the computer off holding down the Power. Now upon rebooting again~! now I recieve a message saying Failure Configuring Windows Updates, Reverting Changes....but now the screen just gets frozen here....and upon shutting down and rebooting now it keeps giving me the failure configuring, reverting changes message.....

Ive tried to enter using Safe mode, but the screen still just gets stuck when giving me that message...

I could really use some advice, or an explanation of what is going on or what I can do.

Any Help would be most definitely gratefully appreciated.

Jay

If you have any peripherals plugged in, unplug them before starting the computer. See if the update will finally be successful
