Hi, whenever I turn on or off "Number Lock" in my keyboard a notification message pops up in the lower right corner of the screen displaying the status (ON or OFF). Same for "Caps Lock". Is this a Windows 7 feature? If so, how can I disable it? Thanks (I went to Control Panel/Keyboard but found no such feature)

From what I could find out, the only notification that comes with Windows is the Ease of Access Center / Make the keyboard easier to use. This option will play a 'tone' when the Caps Lock, Num Lock or Scroll Lock are activivated. Any on-screen notifications are placed there by third party software that is usually installed by the computer manufacturer. Or it may also be placed on the system with software from some custom, third party keyboard manufacturers.

Thanks marsmimar, I also thought about 3rd party software but I did a clean Windows install and I have not installed any keyboard 3rd party software. I also checked Device Manager and I see the microsoft windows default devices for "Human Interface Devices" and "Keyboards" (no 3rd party devices or drivers). Could it be a BIOS feature?

I found the solution! It's HERE
For bluetooth keyboards that do not have a LED indicating Caps or Num Lock status this feature might be useful, but for regular PC keyboards it's a nuisance since it slows down the initial typing availability response a bit.

"this notification is handled by BTTray.exe process. You must edit the following registry entries to ged rid of this ugly alert:
Press WinKey and type "regedit" > navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Widcomm > BTConfig > General > KeyIndication

Change the value of "KeyIndication" from "1" to "0"
Reboot..
And the nasty notification is gone!"

Yes, when I did the clean install I installed the ASUS official drivers for the mobo. Among the drivers there is the Widcomm Bluetooth drivers for the mobo's built in BT controller. This driver installs the BTTray.exe process which as mentioned includes this notification feature.
