Windows 7 freezing but not in Ubuntu

I am currently dual booting Win 7 and Ubuntu. But lately my computer automatically scheduled a "chkdsk" during boot and it stops checking and i wait and a while later it shuts down i start it up and skip the chkdsk and starts up normaly and i login and after a while my mouse freezes i wait nothing works and the hard drive activity light is off. In Ubuntu i go to the disk utility it says there is a bad sector but i cant fix it on ubuntu. on windows startup features there is repair, safe mode, and others i tried going to the repair i click repair startup it says scanning for problems then it says it is doing something with the disk and never does anything.

Now the first question, then we'll go from there. Have you attempted to do a system restore. If not attempt to do that first. You can do this two ways: 1) go into your start menu then down to "Accessories" then to "System tools" then finally to "System restore." This can only be done in Windows. This will restore your system back to a time when you weren't having problems. If that doesn't help please post back so we can look in another direction. Good Luck

In Ubuntu i go to the disk utility it says there is a bad sector but i cant fix it on ubuntu.

Do you have a chance to run a DOS-based utility from the disk manufacturer, maybe?

I know for sure that Seagate and WD (you'll have to choose the disk model first) provide diagnostic utilities that run directly from DOS (as other manufacturers probably do), and that for example the WD one can re-allocate bad sectors to a "spare" area if needed. That would hopefully solve the bad sector issue.

you can skip the automatic startup repair and launch the command line from the menu which should appear after it. There just run chkdsk c: /r and maybe it will fix that bad secotr if there is one...
