Windows 7 Global System EQ

I want to apply an EQ that affects all output from windows 7.

So that means I have no interest in how to use the EQ in WMP, foobar or winamp etc... that is not global, that is app specific.

I have a realtek soundcard and the latest drivers (R2.70) and am aware of the graphic EQ settings there, and also the "Enhancements" etc.. in the sound card settings.

Let's cut to the chase... the EQ provided by realtek is pants... utter rubbish. If this worked ok then my problem would be solved, but it doesnt.

So a solution ? Im not 100% sure, but this is the only thing I can think of at the moment ;

Install some sort of virtual audio cable (and possibly ASIO4ALL)
Install a VST host (VSTHost ?)
Install a VST eq that is hosted by the above
Virtual audio cable to run into vst host
Virtual audio cable to run out of host to feed normal sound output
Ensure the VST Host can automatically load on windows startup and load the eq and the defined eq curve.

So does anybody have any suggestions on the specifics of what I might need in order to achieve the above ?

I have a recording studio, using Sonar X1. I have lots of VST's but they only work in conjunction with Sonar, they do not work by themselves as a standalone. Thus I don't think what you would like to do with the VST's can be done. I have also run into problems when I once tried to use ASI4ALL and it disabled my recording interface unit (at the time a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40).

My new PC build (just completed last week) has RealTek but it also came with a Creative SoundBlaster Xfi MB software enhancement to the RealTek. This or something similar is what you are looking for to add the EQ.

I use Studio One / Ableton and have a couple of EQ's at my disposal but was thinking of using the FabFilter Pro-Q.

I think it can be done, just need something to host the VST such as VSTHost
VSTHost

Then need a way of controlling the audio input/output to/from vsthost and back into windows, which I think can be done with something like this :
DDMF virtual audio stream

But I would prefer a free alternative and some confirmation that it would actually work.
