Hey everyone, if this is in the wrong section, I apologize!

Last week I updated my windows vista computer to Windows 7 Home Premium. Since doing this my screen every so often would randomly flash grey for 1 second. This has continued all week up until yesterday when it flashed more frequently. (Close to 10 times in a few hours) Today it did this but the flashing stayed on the grey screen for about 5 seconds. I shut down my computer thinking this might help. When I turned it back on a few horus laster, it stayed on the grey screen throughout the whole startup. When the password screen came up, everything was back to normal.

I did change my screen options today to stop the dimming that windows 7 does once I got back on my computer thinking it may help. Im not sure if this is a driver issue or perhaps my screen going ca-put on me. Any help or ideas would be so wonderful. Thank you.

Probably just a GPU driver issue. Update the driver from the manufacturer's website, reboot and see if it goes ca-put again.

Okay thanks. I went to HPs site, typed in my laptop info and downloaded the ATI mobility Radeon graphics driver. I will let you know what happens

Edit: I downloaded and installed it, while installing it had an instalation failure, yet its still prompting me to restart. Will let you know if anything happens.

Okay, Ive installed and restarted. It didnt have a grey screen when I restarted and when I right clicked on my desktop, it shows the new driver as being to current one, so it musta work. I will let you know by tomorrow if this worked. It has been happening daily so i should know if it was the soultion by then. Either way thanks so much for you help!

Just a quick update, after downloading that driver, it has gone to a grey screen a few times today while working on my laptop, even once flashing black instead of grey. Do I need other drivers other than my graphics one? Or should I assume the worse and start saying for a replacement screen?

At this point I am thinking that perhaps the graphics card may be failing, since you got an error during installation. But I can't be sure. If nobody else has any suggestions, I'd advise you to contact HP customer support. A good starting point would be here
