My computer is an Acer Aspire X1420 that comes with an onboard graphics that would always crash when running any prolonged graphic intense application. This desktop unit has a limited 220watt power supply, which is why an ASUS HD 6450 silent 1GB DDR3 graphics card upgrade was highly recommended due to the low power requirement of 26 watts at peak power. That said, my computer is freezing with this new card installation.

Now the card you are trying to install is an Ati one and this is the driver for it Access Denied

Just as by the by two things the PSU is really quite small and we may have to go test it for the rail voltages and the AV you have on board is not one that I would have on any of my machines but that is your choice to have it of course. Just one thing if you manage to get the driver for that card to install and still get problems then try disabling the AV and see if that has any improvement on the system.

Edit: I meant to say the dumps are graphics errors probably for the previous card.

Hi ICIT2LOL,

Thanks for your reply, but I am not sure what you telling me.
The link that you provided points to the same graphics driver that I used to install my HD 6450 Silent 1GB DDR3 graphics card. So it sounds like I installed using the correct driver.

What does AV mean? Advanced Video? Sorry I don't know the acronym for that one. If you have a suggested low profile video card that has low power consumption I would appreciate you telling me about it I might be firing this graphics card back to my computer store. Thanks.

Ok EGGS now the drivers you have then is the right one and I would uninstall any NVidia drivers in that case.

Go to Control Panel and do that (uninstall NVidia drivers) and check to see if the Ati driver is there. Now I think the BSOD dump that showed a problem with the graphics may have thrown me off course a bit as the faulty driver was for NVidia.

AV is just for anti virus I see you have AVG as your security. No it is of course your choice to have what you like but I have to say that after using AVG many years ago I am not a great fan of it at all and would not have it ever again on my machines.

The other reason I asked is that quite often an AV will interfere with the system and a temporary fix is to disable it - so that is what I was going to suggest next if the driver does not fix the problem. Now if the temporary disable worked then I would be inclined to uninstall the AV and replace it with something else, and if it changed nothing the I would say leave it installed.

I hope that makes a little sense now:)
