Windows 7 home edition problem

hello there,

I have a dell desktop that I bought with windows 7 home edition a little over a year ago. The other night I was doing some yahoo searches and my McAfee Security thing popped up and said the site was bad and then another window opened and said that McAfee removed a trojan. Well, ever since that happened my computer has been basically useless. It won't allow me to connect to the internet, keeps saying limited access. It won't let me open my netgear network adapter program to see what's wrong with it. It also wouldn't let me open anything in the control panel

*ex. I can open the control panel but it won't let me free up disk space .I can open system restore but it won't let me run it. It won't let me troubleshoot anything as an administrator.

There's always a pop up saying that what ever action i'm trying to do isn't installed..?

Do you have a friend with a PC that can download Malwarebytes to a USB pen-drive? If so, see if you can start Windows in safe mode & copy the malwarebytes installation file to your drive & install it. Then run a full scan.

this may be a stupid question, but would their computer need to be a PC or can it be a mac? and also where can i find malwarebytes?

Good question. I would think it should be downloaded to a PC. Perhaps someone else can answer that.

Work through these steps as if Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.

In addition to disinfecting thoroughly, you may need to repair system files and the boot.. Everything that can be done is there leading up to if necessary rescuiing files and running Recovery or Clean Reinstalling.

Replace the atrocious MucAfee with Microsoft Security Essentials and the Win7 firewall kept updated Automatically.

Try a system restore using the method two of the tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html .

One other thing - You may want to boot to safe mode with networking, as Malwarebytes will attempt to update the virus database as soon as it is installed. Hopefully your network connection will work in safe mode!
