Solved Windows 7 Home Premium Adminstrator Password Expiry

Hi Everyone, Really hope someone can help me as im going bald from tearing my hair out.

My laptop has died, but as i have virtually everything saved on an external hard drive I thought I could just use my daughters laptop until I get chance to go out and get myself a replacement.

My daughters laptop has me as an admin, and my daughter as a user, mainly so I could have parental controls on it. I've not had need to use hers in ages. I wanted to install the wireless printer on her laptop so I could print out my work, but when it asked me for administrator password, and when i entered it and it said it had expired, then I started to have problems.

I've searched online and tried all the solutions i've come across so far (changing date back, trying to run as admin and changing passwords to unlimited, turn off password required etc etc etc), but at every stage it asks me for the password, however, as the password has expired, it wont accept what I enter. So at the moment I currently have two defunct laptops....mine that is totally kapput and my daughters which, although working perfectly, it not much use as I cant print anything, alter her status to admin, or open a new user account!

If anyone can give me any help whatsoever, bearing in mind that im not totally computer literate so need basic instructions, i'll be sooooo grateful!

Hello Sam, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Changing the password for the account should stop the warning message.

Afterwards, you could disable password expiration if you like. Since the computer has Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it, you'll need to use OPTION TWO below instead.

Many thanks for your speedy response Shawn. i've got to dash out for a bit so cant try try your advice yet....have instructed husband, children, cats, chickens, guinea pigs and goldfish to not got anywhere near either laptop til i return!

p.s. when i get my new laptop it will no doubt have windows 8 on, so will be joining the windows 8 forum too!
