Hi..
For several months I have had problems with Windows Update error 80073712

sfc /scannow is not possible and I have also tried a repair with my installation disc, without any luck
A reinstall is out of the question, som I hope you'll help me..

This is not good news...

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Hi..

I'm not using any filesharing services, so I uploaded the files to this folder on my website
Index of /download/files

There is a backup of components, and I uploaded it also, just in case..

Is your COMPONENTS file really only 256KB??
If so, then you have major problems which can only be cured by a repair install - or perhaps a clean install.

Yes.. it is only 256kb.
I have tried a repair install, but it will not run.
So I think the only way is to use my laptop as is, because the only problem that I have, is that I can't make any Windows updates.. Everything else seems to Work fine/has been working fine since I bought my laptop.

I have a older backup at Work, so I'll try to install it later, or is it possible to use the components file from it?

It's potentially worse to have an out-of-step COMPONENTS hive, than it is to have an effectively non-existent one.
You really do need to fix this - if a repair install won't work, you're left with either a System Recovery or a clean install.
