This is my problem. Some time ago I bought Windows 7 home premium upgrade. I thought it was full but it wasn't. So the guy at the store said no problem. Just go to Microsoft sit and download the free trial and load it then when it come to puting in the key. Use the one in your upgrade box. Thats fine and it worked great. A couple years have passed and now I want it off my pc and on my mac. I went to Microsoft site and they no longer have a free trail of it now. What can I do now? Keep in mind my PC is not a store bought computer. I built it myself. so there is no recovery partition. HELP is greatly appreciated.

The only thing i have legal is the windows 7 upgrade disk. I had an illegal xp. but got rid of it and downloaded 7 trial.

Then, IMO, you have no other way but getting a full version key .

Still, I am asking more opinions, please stay online.

Archie is correct. Under the EULA you're required to have a Vista or XP license on hand to use Upgrade version.

When you boot the installer if it sees an underlying OS on the HD, it should allow use of Upgrade version key. If not it requires doing the workaround in the tutorial linked to activate Upgrade version on a cleaned or new HD.

Ok. How come I was able to download the free trial of 7 before and it worked?

Ok. How come I was able to download the free trial of 7 before and it worked?

I explained it above.

Because the installer saw an OS on the HD and allowed use of Upgrade version key during install.

To be legal your best bet is to ask a friend or relative or buy a cheap copy of XP/Vista on eBay. It doesn't even have to be installed as I also explain in my post above .

Ok. Got it. thanks everyone.
