Running Vista Home Premium X64 and trying to install Windows 7 Home Premium X64. The install fails the installer's compatibility test with the message

"The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading.
Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and
then restart the upgrade to continue.

For these items, make the following changes:
Uninstall these programs. Open Control Panel and search for "uninstall a program".
Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 "

However, Trend Micro Internet Security was uninstalled from this computer at least a year ago and I can find no evidence of any shreds of it being present - not in the programs list, not in the file system and not in the registry.

I'm dead in the water with this W7 installation. Any ideas - PLEASE?

Thanks!

Thanks, Hopalong, I already did that but it didn't solve the problem at all.

P.S. I was a big fan of yours when I was a little kid! OMG you must be 200 now!

The uninstaller was my 2 cents of help.

Someone else may have some ideas. I hope so.

Yeah Hoppy was my favorite. Of course it was reruns on Saturday morning locally in the early 60's .
TV was B&W and we didn't know they were reruns. :D

What's stopping you from getting the superior Clean Install from the booted DVD: Clean Install Windows 7

If you've got to have the inferior Upgrade install, then try a clean boot: uncheck everything in msconfig>Startup, then after several restarts in msconfig>Services choose "Hide all MS Services" and uncheck everything there. Restart and try Upgrade install again which should proceed since nothing's running except Vista.

For these items, make the following changes:
Uninstall these programs. Open Control Panel and search for "uninstall a program".
Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 "

The Windows 7 installer finds meaningless fragments of incompatible software. One fix is here:

Installing Windows 7 home premium upgrade Trend Micro problem

(not sure how happy the mods will be with a link to a forum that is similar to this one).

The short version: in Windows\System32\DRIVERS, find TMComm.sys. From a command window run with admin privileges, rename or delete the file.
