Greetings!

I purchased a new computer two years ago. It came installed with Windows 7 and everything worked great!

I bought this computer for a specific project that required me to run Linux. So, after a "burn in" period of two weeks running Windows I installed Ubuntu with no issues.

I'm now trying to re-purpose this computer and install Windows 7 again. I have the original DVD that came with the computer, and it boots up fine, but when it gets to the screen that says "Starting Windows" and it just sits there. Forever.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Brian

Welcome to the forum. Is the disk a Linux disk if you may need to delete all partitions so it's a blank drive

Thanks for the "Welcome" and suggestion.

I should have mentioned that I've tried three different drives (including one brand new, straight out of the box). I tried removing all other drives also, so there was only the DVD drive and one HD and still get the same result.

That said, when I try booting from a Ubuntu DVD, I have no problems running an install.

I'm a little baffled :)

If it's an old install DVD could it be corrupted you could try coping all files to USB or hd and see if you get errors on copy

When you purchased the computer two years ago, who has installed Win 7 on it?

How did you get the Win 7 installation disk? Is it a Retail or OEM version?

I'm asking because to install win 7 on a SkyLake ( i7-6700+ Z170) you must add SATA and USB 3.x drivers to the installation disk or you wont have Mouse and / or mouse during the installation.

Thanks for the info.

The computer came with Windows 7 Pro preinstalled. It also came with an original, unopened Windows 7 Pro install DVD.

The information you mentioned about adding SATA and USB 3 drivers makes sense. I am running an i7-6700kLast time I tried installing I had my mouse plugged into a USB3 port an it wouldn't work. Previous attempts it was plugged into a USB2 port.

How do I go about installing these drivers?

Thanks again for the help!
