Windows 7 install - no keyboard

I have been undertaking a new WIN7 (SP1) premium install on new hardware a gigabyte brix pro gb-bxi7-4770r with a single 8gb ram and 500gb Sata3.

Through searching this forum I have eventually managed to start the install by setting security to disabled and enabling CSM in the BIOS. I also found I needed to boot from the UEFI DVD rather then the normal devoice name and then managed to get all the way through the build up to 'setup is checking video performance' Here it seems to hang before going to a blank screen. From what i can see this appears to be a video card or the use of LCD TV; others report that a reboot allowed them to continue.

When I reboot i get the entry screen for user and computer name but the USB keyboard and mouse - that worked at the start of the build, no longer operate. Re-booting and disconnecting and reconnecting make no difference.

any ideas?

Having investigated further the issue appers to be that my PC hs only usb3 ports and no way of setting xhci to disabled to take them permanently down to usb2 during the install. It has an auto feature that seems to be usb2 during the early part of the build and goes to Usb3 when the o/s starts to load.

So is there anyway of getting win7 on a usb3 system either by building a o/s build disc with the USB3 drivers on it or installing them somehow, given if I shift f10 I have no keyboard?

Yes i have contacted gigabyte support but not yet heard back. I have just downloaded an ISO and tried the load from usb described on this site, to see if he had an updated set of drivers. I am not sure that it has but have now managed to get into command mode with a keyboard. Although the machine is running really slow. When it came to enter the user and pc name I still couldn't enter anything but it suddenly randomly started to enter H characters and then proceeded showing a white arrow at the end. I managed to shift F10 and am trying to update the drivers from the gigabyte disc. However it just seems to timeout as it is so I slow.

Things have continued and I have now got Win 7 on my device but it is running so so slow which may be the original problem for lack of a keyboard.

Doing basic tasks takes so long it seems to have frozen but eventually continues. I have managed to install the chipset drivers but the graphics card driver was unsigned (it took an hour to get to that). The LAN driver seemed to have a problem and I am just about to repeat that

It takes around 15mins to do something simple like load a driver setup application. I am not sure if this is because it UEFI or GPT. Windows load itself seemed reasonably ok it is slow as soon as it get s to windows.

Enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional, with reboots, until there are no more when you again Check for Updates each time after reboot.

This not only delivers drivers for the first driver-complete OS but also important patches which may be required for you hardware to work correctly.

After this, what drivers are still missing in Device Manager? These can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for each device, which can be traced using Device Manager - Finding Unknown Devices - Windows 7 Help Forums or if necessary Hardware Identification .

Next work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to establish a Clean Boot, check logs for repeat errors to resolve, utilize System Resources to find and fix problems. Once you run your Windows Experience Index at Computer>Properties, click on that link there to see if the Advanced Tools have issues queued at top, then Generate a System Health Report.

I`d return the thing, why doesn`t it come with some type of OS on it.

What was your purpose for purchasing it ?

Thank you Gregrocker, I eventually got a system that seems to be performing as I would expect although I haven't yet loaded the usb3 drivers but that is deliberate whilst I check a few things. It looks like the driver for Intel smart storage technology is what made the difference as once that was loaded and the system rebooted the performance came to life I then did several driver and patch updates as you suggested and it is working as expected.

This was a Barebones system, hence why the o/s wasn't installed however they could have made it significantly easier by disabling secure boot and enabling csm, which took me a couple of days to figure.
