Hello, I downloaded and made an install DVD for Win 7. Computer installed when through all screens through reboot. Now all I can see is a black screen. Lower right hand corner says Windows 7 Evaluation copy build 1700. If I let it sit long enough the screen will go completely blank, but once you move the mouse the above informaiton will reappear. I have reloaded windows seven several times now with the same result. Formatted the hard drive and repartitioned. Same results.

Welcome to the sevenforums! You are probably seeing this with the 64bit RC. The 64bit Vista was known for particular installation errors when more then 2gb of memory was installed. This was thing the SP1 addressed and SP2 already available to Technet Plus and MSDN subscribers have available.
That tends to be more of a problem with P4s then other cpus however where 7 is involved. With 4gb on here both 32 and 64bit betas and now the RCs go on without anything like that being seen. McBlzr's suggestion there is one thing MS also advises on installation problems where more then 2gb is on.

Thank you for the jump start on this forum. I removed all but 1 Gig of memory. PC 2100 400Mhz but still no 7. This DID however remind me to KISS, so I removed all my extra cards. Two extra USB cards by Belkin, Linksys N wireless card, and my BFG NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT OC 256MB AGP Video Card.
Of course After one stick of memory I reinstalled the Video card and noticed that I had both the DVI and VGA cables to my monitor connected. (Monitor is an Acer X223w). I only connected the VGA cable and did not install the DVI cable, computer booted just fine. I shut windows and reinstalled the other three cards and remaining three sticks of Memory. Windows now boots, runs great!. THe DVI will prevent windows from completly displaying.
For a motherboard that is several years old now, this machine is running great!
Thanks again ASUSManufacturer Part #P4P800 DELUXE

I think the problem was two cables at once being connected between video card and monitor canceling each other out. With an older AGP card you would want to stay with the vga cable until eventually upgrading for the time being.
