Windows 7 install problem

First time poster, and im sorry that my first post is a problem, but i am completely out of ideas on how to fix this problem.

installing on a asus u35jc-a1 laptop.

Using a boot flash drive to do the instal a x64 windows 7. It is the same instal file that was used to instal windows 7 on this pc that i am typing on.

Problem: the instal can get to the point where i tell it what network i am on, and how i want my windows updates to happen, but when i hit a screen that says "windows is finalizing your settings" it goes black and restarts. When it loads back up, it has a load bar for windows, then the icon for a normal windows start up, then it goes to a grey screen desktop background with only my cursor showing. it sits for 5-10 seconds, then restarts. and repeats the process of a windows load bar, logo, grey desktop background for as long as i have the laptop on.

I am at a loss for what to do now. any ideas on what i can do? i really need this laptop for school Monday.

Update: as i was typing this, i tried to instal the x32 bit version, and still no luck.

Update: i was able to hook up a cd-rom drive to my laptop still getting the same problem when i use the cd to instal.

Update: my bios is set to the default settings. i tried setting the SATA configuration to IDE, instead of ACHI and i am still getting the same problem.

Update: i have tried this link: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/15856-device-manager-access-during-windows-7-installation.html and disable my video drivers, and still the same thing.

Hello Barten, welcome to Seven Forums!


Leave the storage controller set as AHCI for the install.

If you're sure there's nothing wrong with the installer, it may be worth the time to do a complete wipe of the Hard Disk Drive / Solid State Drive and then start the installation process again, have a look at Step One of the Optimize tutorial below; after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, then boot the Windows 7 installation media to do the wipe secure erase to the HDD / SSD and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

:info: Whether you use diskpart to run either the clean all command to completely wipe a HDD / SSD or just the clean command to remove the format configuration data and don't use diskpart to create at least a single partition to do the installation to, letting the Windows installer do the format you will end up with the new Windows 7 System Reserved partition, if you want to make your own decision whether this partition is added, study these two (2) options below.

• Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
• If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.

Either way, running the "clean all" then creating and formatting the partition(s) using diskpart will get you the best possible space to do a clean install of Windows 7 to; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

Hello!
thank you for the help. i just wiped all partitions on the hard drive. i didn't know that all the partitions that were showing where part of the same drive. Im doing another instal right now, ill let you know how it works out.

You didn't wipe them if you simple deleted them, all the old data is still there, I suggested you over-write the data with the diskpart clean all command, there's a big difference.

for the clean all command, when do i type that in? list disk>select disk n>list partition>"clean all"?

4. The system starts system recovery automatically and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.
