Windows 7 Install Problem

Hi

I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop purchased last year. It originally ran Windows Vista 64 bit and began having problems almost immediately. Eventually it got so bad the hard drive died with no ability to recover. I purchased a replacement hard drive which I installed. Without any recovery discs for my computer I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium Full Installation and am trying to install it currently. I am having an issue, as I have seen others have as well, finding an appropriate driver that can be downloaded and transfered onto my dv6000 laptop through UBS Drive. Any direction on this issue would be much appreciated! :)

I doubt that I can be of much help, because I really dislike HP computers (the first one that I had was HP). However, before anyone might be able to help, they would need to know specifically which driver(s) that you need. The OS has a lot of drivers that are native, but that is not always the case. I have not found that HP is very good about keeping up to date drivers/software available.

I am trying to install a new copy of windows using the Custom (advanced) method of installation because my hard drive is blank. After selecting this method of instal I am asked "Where would you want to install Windows?" on the screen there are no options available for selection because it says "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation." I need to find whichever driver Windows is looking for when it says "To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files"

Yes I am looking to transfer this using a USB Storage Device however I haven't been able to locate the appropriate file/driver to use. Every one I have tried the windows install on the hp pavilion has not been able to find "signed device drivers. Make sure the installation media contains the correct drivers"

How is the harddrive configured in the BIOS? I saw that driver window on one installation, and I think that it was due to the fact that the harddrive type wasn't set properly. I'm assuming that you only have one harddrive, thus make sure that nothing is set to RAID in the BIOS, and if it is SATA, make sure that is enabled.

I'm not sure how to check or change setting for the BIOS. I am using SATA I believe. Is there a compatibility problem because this machine was originally running on VISTA and now I am trying to load Windows 7 on the new hard drive or something?

to get into the bios it may be you have to press f2 or del on start up it should tell you which key to enter setup on your first boot screen

Im not sure if I know how to do that exactly... The Boot Order is
USB Floppy
ATAPI CD/DVD ROM Drive
Notebook Hard Drive
USB Diskette on Key
USB Hard Drive
Network Adapter

I have the PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility Open. It says Factory installed OS : Vista. It doesn't look like it gives me an option to change anything under the main tab. Boot Options is the only thing I can change and that is the boot order

I really appreciate all of your help. I would never figure this out be myself...I moved USB HD to the top with Notebook Hard Drive next. When the computer starts now turns on and off over and over again after it comes to the initial black start up screen .I am still not sure if I even have the correct driver installed on the USB.

right, set the cd/dvd to first boot ,the usb hdd to second boot and move the notebook hdd to the last place ,insert your win7 disc in the dvd and reboot ,that should start the setup installation on the way remember to press any key to boot from dvd

I'm not certain which BIOS that your system uses. On mine it requires tapping the Delete key at the first BIOS screen to enter it. Your's may require a different key, but it should say which on that first BIOS screen. The BIOS settings window will appear after the BIOS screens and before the Windows start screen. Once inside, the settings are divided into several group. I would suggest going through all of them for the sake of familiarity. Since the arrangement varies, I can't tell you exactly which to check, but you need first to determine that the BIOS sees the drive, which should make it apparent that it's controller is enabled properly.

It sounds as though you are using a flash drive as the installation medium, so that must be your first device in Boot Priority, followed by the harddrive that you are installing on. After getting the settings right, be sure to save them before exiting. Hopefully, once this is done, the installation will see the harddrive.
