Hello, in advance a thank you for your help.

I bought a laptop asus K55VM, and switch the optical drive for a SSD.

Both drives are format and active since what a want is a clean install.

During the instillation both drives don't show up, i tried to load drivers from intel but nothing shows up.

The Bios shows both drivers, i change from AHCI to IDE but no effect.

Since this chipset is new i think this my be the problem.
Any help is welcome.

Hello apmm17,

Did you say you have both drives set as Active? I could be wrong but I think You should only have the drive you want Windows installed on as Active.

Did you set the drives active in Disk Management? Try unplugging one of the drives and see if it picks one up?

Can you install to the SSD if it is in some other drive bay and is the only drive in the laptop?

No, the windows instillation doesn't recognize any drive, even it's only one drive or two.

Where did you get the Win7 installer? Are you writing it to flash stick since you swapped the OD for an SSD? Confirm the ISO and write another using the download and tool given in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 then follow the steps carefully to get a perfect reinstall.

Check also for a firmware update for the SSD.

Unplug the HD during install. Plug the SSD into SATA 1. Reset BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI to try install, SSD set first to boot. Then trigger the installer using Acer F12 one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

If this fails, boot into installer, press Shift+F10 at first screen to run Diskpart Clean Command to wipe the HD of unnecessary formatting, choose the SSD for install then click Next to let installer create and format partition.

If this fails reinstall the OD to try DVD install from F12 key at boot. Use the latest installer ISO and Win7 Download tool to burn it.

Next try removing all but 2gb RAM to try install. Swap RAM sticks, test your RAM.

Report back results of each of these attempts. Fill in your System specs in bottom left corner of post.

Thank you for the answers.

The problem is that all official windows 7 images don't have drivers from the chipset that recognize the hardrive and ssd. I'am trieing to get the drivers.

The windows is OEM and writing it to flash stick

Have you had a look on the Asus site for the drivers?

If you can't find them on there then maybe send an email to their support section, they should be able to help you out.

I open a ticket on ASUS support.

About the drivers, they only have one from intel chipset. I already create a custom ISO with this drivers but without effect.

I can't be the only one with this problem. I think so.

The Win7 installer is driver-complete for SATA storage drivers, which is why I suggested to use the latest official installer ISO w/SP1 which I linked you, written with the tool that is most reliable.

Please reply to each step I gave you. The step you skip is often the fix. We have a 100% install rate for those who actually do the work.

Suggestion -- As long as you have a valid Win7 license key, try downloading a fresh ISO image from DigitalRiver that already has ServicePack1 included. I have seen other instances where an older version of Win7 does not play nice with SSD's or motherboards with the newer UEFI BIOS when attempting a fresh install of the operating system.

After you accept the license terms, the next screen should be "where do you want to install windows to?". If no drives are shown at this point, click on 'install drivers' and you should be able to browse for a DVD or USB drive with the drivers available on it. If, after this, no drivers show up, try unchecking the box "do not show drivers that are not compatible with this hardware". If the drivers then show up, your system is telling you the drivers are not compatible; and you need to search for different drivers that are.

Once the drivers find the drive and attach to it, the drive should then show up to be able to select and install the operating system to.

I had a similar problem with an ASUS desktop motherboard, and the later version of Win7 with the SP1 already present installed flawlessly and resolved all of the issues I was having.

Sorry, did not see Greg's post on Page2 of the thread -- kinda duplicates what he is saying

Did you check to make sure the SSD is compatible with that laptop?

Did you install it in the Optical bay first?

Have you checked the drives on another system?
