Windows 7 installation problems

I'm new so I'll cut to the chase. I'm using windows 7 home premium 32bit OEM. I started installing at noon. I'm using a custom install. When I get to expanding windows files, it would start freezing at some numbers for as long as 30 minutes. At 4 the expanding ended. It also tool a half hour to finish installing too. When I got to the product key, I typed it in and it took 20 minutes to confirm it. When I got to the page that said windows is finalizing settings, it turned to a blank black screen. I tried it again and it froze. I also tried repairing but it did nothing. I also ran the upgrade adviser and I meet the minimum requirements.


I hope somebody could explain what's going on.

I'm using an Aopen motherboard, 34.4 HDD, pentium 4 running at 2.4ghz

What external devices are connected ? Dis-connect them,If you hav a HD TV connected, dis-connect it also.

I don't have any thing connected except a ps/2 mouse and keyboard and a samsung sync master 151v monitor

I notice from this thread you also posted recently that you don't have a graphics card installed and that your hard drive partition is only 34GB in size.

These two factors I would have thought may well prevent Windows 7 installing.

Your spec's state:

Hard Drives 34.4 gb
Memory Ram, 34.4 gb HDD???????

So this would make 3 partitions 11gb each, one for each OS.

Do you wont all three OS?

If you're trying to install Windows 7 on a hard drive of 11GB in size, it will more than likely fail.

According to Microsoft, the minimum disc space required is 16GB for the 32-bit version and 20GB for the 64-bit version.

I'm talking of a previous experience with ubuntu 11.04. I'm using a custom install of windows 7 upgrade from xp. I already formatted the drive

Formatting might not be enough. Wipe the HD from DVD Repair Command Line to try install: Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

Next test the HD using maker's diagnostics/repair extended CD scan: HD Diagnostic

Reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Next test your RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+ Reseat your RAM, swap sticks.

Where did you get Win7? If you burned it yourself try confirming the iSO integrity and burn another DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed with Verify. Or write ISO to flash stick to try install: Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux

Now I have it installed but it freezes when I go over the start menu
I'm guessing video card but any help is appreciated

How many ram sticks do you have & what size are they ?

I have all four slots full and was running 1.5 gigs of ram BEFORE INSTALLING 7

1/2 gb is very low, since some will be allocated to your onboard video. Plus you should really have matched pairs of ram sticks.

Did you remove some of the RAM to try install? You can plug it back in now to see. 528 is way too low to run with a vid card.

Did you install from XP desktop or boot the WIn7 DVD? WIpe the HD or format?

Go online if possible to check optional Windows Updates for newer drivers. Update the video card.

Can you default to onboard video chip in BIOS to check the difference?
