Windows 7 installed but will not boot on my system

I have a custom built system. windows 7 installed but it will not start up in this system. A friend put the hard drive into his system and Windows started up fine on his. I ran the memory check on windows and it never said that there were problems but you have to be able to get into windows to see the report so i can't be totally sure. The motherboard was sent back and checked by the mfg. and i doubt that the processor could be bad if it was able to install windows 7 onto the hard drive. My friend thinks it is a hardware issue, but i am conviced that it is some type of configuration issue. any advice or guidance would be grealty appreciated i have had this expensive paperweight sitting around for months and months because i am not very well versed in this field.

Will the HD Drive show in BIOS?

First try booting into Safe Mode with Networking to install, update and run a full scan with Malwarebytes

If Safe Mode is not working, download, burn to CD or write to flash stick, boot and run a full scan with Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper.

Once the System is clean, boot into System Recovery Options via the F8 menu or disk as shown in tutorial, run Startup Repair repeatedly no matter what it reports. Post back results.

If this fails, try System Restore from Recovery Options list, then if that fails open a Command Line to run SFC -SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

As a last resort you boot free Partition Wizard bootable CD to Explore C to see if your files are intact, make sure C or the 100mb System Reserved partition (preferred) is marked Active, then click on HD to highlight it, from Disk tab select Rebuild MBR, Apply. If Windows 7 doesn't start and you restored Active flag, run Startup Repair 3 Separate Times.

If these all fail you can copy out your data using your Windows 7 DVD or Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console or Paragon Rescue CD.

Then run Factory Recovery from its partition or disks you made or order from Tech Support, or find a Windows 7 installation DVD to clean reinstall using Product Key on COA sticker: Clean Reinstalling Windows 7

Well i don't think there is anything wrong with the windows installation because my friend can put the same hard drive i am trying to boot from in his computer and it boots windows 7 just fine.

Just because the install works on your friend's computer, it doesn't mean that it will necessarily work on yours.

Greg is our resident expert in this field, so I think you should give him the courtesy of at least looking at the suggestions he has given you.

it gets into the loop of wanting to keep running start up repair and the error reports are as follows:

I'm sure if you run through the steps given in post #3 you should resolve your problem.

Those are the standard steps for when Win7 will not boot on your machine. We have to check for infection first because if it's infected it will not usually repair, and if we skip that you'll never know for sure that it might have repaired if it won't.

Are you saying that the installation never started up on your machine or that it ran for awhile and stopped? What was performance like if it started up at all?

What exactly happens when you try to boot normally?

Try resetting the BIOS to defaults.

Run Startup Repair a few more times and to completion to see what else it reports. Then run SFC from Command Prompt as given in link, which also may need to be run three times if it finds damaged files.

No it has never started up on this system.
When it tries to boot it goes directly to start up repair.
Recently i tried to boot from the windows 7 disc and its started to reinstall and then went to a blue screen.

So we are troubleshooting an install:

Where did you get Win7? If you burned it yourself, confirm ISO or download another, burn DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed,

or write ISO to flash stick using Universal USB Installer with Win7 in dropdown menu, then boot it using one-time BIOS boot menu key under USB, Removable or HD's.

Next reset BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS
While in BIOS setup, set SATA controller to AHCI to try install, then IDE if necessary.

Test your HD using maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, which can also wipe your HD afterwards, or use this: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation.

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ Remove all but 2gb RAM to try install, then swap RAM sticks.

If install fails post back exact point of failure and any error messages verbatim: Clean Install Windows 7

Failures at end of install often are due to drivers failing to load which can sometimes by entering Device Manager during install to uninstall drivers in error, mainly Display driver so install will complete: Device Manager - Access During Windows 7 Installation

Your HDD isn't seen by the BIOS.

Power up, press F2 or Del (or whatever your board mfr suggest for setup configuration) and enable both channels for harddisks (set to auto-detect). Once it boots, and you're able to start windows you can disable one of the Hard drive channels (or you can just leave at auto-detect setting).

Startup Repair reports corrupt registry which is does not point to HD but corrupt or infected System files.

Startup Repair can fix these if you first eliminate infection, then run it repeatedly since it may need several passes requiring reboots which depend upon the user to confirm it will boot or not.

In rare cases SFC and System Restore which are critical here need to be run manually.
