Windows 7 is slow to boot and svchost is using 50% cpu

Hi,

i have this Win7-64b desktop with all latest updates installed and pretty recent hardware. But it is running very slow. Symptoms are:

- after boot + autologon the system is unresponsive for at least 15 minutes. Showing a sort of flashing desktop, no response on mouse or keyboards actions.
- after the 15 minutes, the system becomes responsive but 50% CPU is used by scvhost.exe all time long. The high cpu is due to the update service. If I stop this the cpu goes down to say 0%.
- important (windows) updates install ok, but the optional updates fails to install. The install starts but then just hangs on downloading, without any visible progress.

What is the cause/solution for this?

Hi Mynam,
You appear to have a couple of problem devices, USB controllers, please update them.
They may or may not help with your windows update problem.
Its Very difficult to read you onedrive file, so some of the following might not need to be updated
Is Java upto date
Your Brother printer drivers are causing startup hangs
Firefox plugins are showing problems.

Please could you run from an elevated command mode
sfc /scannow

Yep agree with Roy and I still think a chkdsk and those malware scans would not go amiss.
