Update: Downloads are now back up at Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River. Scroll down to your language.

This is posted on the page which links the Win7 ISO's for use by consumers for reinstalls and Repair Installs:

Important Note 20 March 2014

Many downloads are currently unaccessible. This is the second time that this happened, so there's still the chance that the downloads come back in the next few days. But they might as well be pulled for good. To avoid broken downloads, we highly recommend the use of a download manager, and to check the hashes of the downloads.
If your download is no longer available, you can consider downloading an older version, a different language or a different Windows edition, and patch the disk so that it can install other editions as well. In any case, don't delay downloading. The downloads are disappearing at a quick rate.

Go to the MSDN site and go to Subscriber Downloads. Then in the Browse Products A-Z select W and then Windows 7. Now click Details for the ISO your interested in. The SHA1 will be listed there. As far as I know you can do all that without logging in. I only get prompted to log in when I try to download or request a key.

I'm good until 7/8/2014, I've pretty well grabbed all the keys I think I'll ever use. I've also exported them to XML and saved them to my PC. I downloaded all the ISO's I needed long ago.

I'm concerned about the consumer who wants to get a decent install on their store-bought PC, or do a Repair Install. These OEM's except Dell don't provide clean copy DVD's of the OS, because sometimes their entire consumer PC profit margin comes from the preinstalled bloatware (including Office). But we know for sure that pre-installed Win7 is not even close to the quality of doing a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

To provide these for legitimate consumer use has been a struggle here for years. The forums was sanctioned and suffered in Google results for providing some site's ISO links until Heidoc educational institution provided a safe-harbor mirror. Now these are in question. It shouldn't be so hard to provide their customers with the best possible working install of the OS, something eminently within MS's interests.

There is a possibility this is a temporary glitch and/or will be corrected as it was a month ago.

hi kerry
thanks for the quick response.
i must admit i glanced through the download page the first time without paying much attention to all the information there....hence the reason i was confused about which file to download...me again, what else is new huh

anyway i went back and read everything over and now i know the file to download is the "Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 U (media refresh)"

Go to the MSDN site and go to Subscriber Downloads. Then in the Browse Products A-Z select W and then Windows 7. Now click Details for the ISO your interested in. The SHA1 will be listed there. As far as I know you can do all that without logging in. I only get prompted to log in when I try to download or request a key.
i'm definitely going to follow your instructions to check the sh1.
thanks very much man

To me it just seems to promote the use of pirated media, intentional or otherwise. I'd be reluctant to pay for recovery media that is just going to reimage all the bloat back on the system again. Well, I know for a fact I wouldn't do it on any of my systems. I'd find another way.

thanks guys for your responses.

@NoN: I think i'll wait a lil bit to see if they will put it back up again....i'll definitely prefer to have the two in one file than two separate files.

@Indianatone: if they don't put it back up soon, i'll certainly follow your links

@jimbo45: don't really know much about torrent sites so I think i'll hold off on that for now. thanks very much for the input though. much appreciated

You know how if your coffee maker or toaster breaks down we usually just go out and buy a new one? I'm guessing this is the approach the OEMs want us to take.

Of course as computer enthusiasts and professionals we aren't having any of that BS, but it's unreasonable to expect OEMs to devote time and resources to something that doesn't positively affect their profit margins whereas users getting new PCs do.

So between the OEMs wanting to divulge every last penny from its customers and Microsoft wanting to quickly make Windows 7 a thing of the past (Windows 8 is awesome right? Right?! :busted:), we might as well be stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The "Media Refresh" versions create only coasters because (at least Home Premium and Ultimate) they return "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" and it entirely halts installation before it can actually begin. There are .dll files in them that shouldn't be in there. It was not my brand new hardware and it also wasn't a driver problem either, nor was it my disks... we even wasted a DL disk. In the end I lucked out because I found my older disks WITHOUT "Media Refresh"... but also, unfortunately, without SP1 too. Matter of fact, I will be making copious backups of these. Just have to say, shame on Microsoft for not actually providing full support of their operating systems... says a lot about them really. I understand they want everyone to run immediately to their crummy 8/8.1 but... yeah, no thanks... this is a really grimy way to go about it, don't appreciate it at all. If they're really that hard up for money (LOL! As if...) then why don't they just apply a few dollars of service fee for hosting them? I'd pay for that if it instead means not being able to get them from a legitimate source at all... I wouldn't be happy about it, but that's better than them being totally unavailable.

The Media Refresh was what I was using before I got my Microsoft MVP, I didn't have access to TechNet or MSDN then. They worked fine for me on several different desktop PC's and a laptop. As far as I know its only a very small difference between them and the previous Windows 7 ISO. Its too bad they didn't work for you. Not having SP1 already integrated is a bummer too.
