I have been running Windows 7 for a few days now but its driving me mad. Every so often the system keeps freezing. It happens when I am browsing the internet, playing a game, watching a video, and using applications. No warning or error, just instant freeze and I have to hard-reboot.

How do I find the fault?

Easy
type eventvwr in search. go to the windows logs>application tab. look for errors ( they have red in the left column) that have app hang, app crash, etc in them. there is a lot of data so you may want to wiat till the next time it hangs. When you find them use the built iin snipping tool (type snipping in search) to make a screen shot and attach it to the attachment icon (its shaped like a paperclip) and upload it to use.

see the pix.

All these errors in the "applications" tab says the sources is "SideBySide" whatever that means?

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft.vc80.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_none_0c178a139ee2a7ed\MFC80.DLL". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

Same Problem

My system also started "freezing" about two weeks ago. I do a ctrl-alt-delete
click on task manager does not highlight, then does highlight and I click cancel.
I went in the Event Viewer per your suggestions and also have the sidebyside
errors like lDreams is having with an event id of 80. Time that it last happened though was this afternoon at noon and this has happened since then. I will keep an eye on this thread for further developments.

Thanks

Have not had this happen this evening and it has frozen once. Another error that is occuring regularly in the Security section is an Audit Failure

This has happend 145 times in 1 1/2 hours. Always the same error message. But again, it just happened and the system is not frozen. Very strange....... Any suggestions??

I am not familiar with Zonealarm... Not installed in Programs and Features... I have a job running right now
then I will try the C++ download.... Seems like it only freezes when no activity.. has not happened last 3 hours but I have had a backup running...
