Windows 7 keeps opening pictures alphabetically

Hi all.

The problem is stated in the title. I have some folders that are sorted to my appropriate needs, such as 'Date Created', and I would like to view those files, especially pictures, in that particular order. However, Windows 7, for whatever reason seems to open those images alphabetically, instead of my sorted mode. This has occurred on both the Windows Photo Viewer as well as Windows Live Photo Gallery.

My question is, is there any way to turn this function off, or make Windows recognize the way I sort my files?

Your help would be very much appreciated! Thank you!

Thanks for your input. Windows Explorer sorts my images just fine, it when opening the images to view them that is the problem. The pictures are not recognized in the order that the are sorted by, but alphabetically. Is there any way to change that?

Im using Windows Photo viewer and it works fine. Pics are shown in the order sorted.
Lets stay with Photo Viewer, try again and report back.
I go to the first pic in the folder and click on it and photo viewer begins the display.

Thanks for your help. It seems that the problem lies with Windows Live Photo Gallery. I was using that as the default. Windows Photo Viewer does not seem to have that problem when it's set to default, but it'll still show up on Photo Viewer if the default is set on Live Photo Gallery. It seems that if the default program is set on Live Photo Gallery, it opens the files in alphabetical order, even if you use other programs. Weird.

While this issue is solved, is there any way to change that setting in Photo Gallery?

I am forced to give you an I am not sure. I know how to make it work from my own experience. Since I do not like Live Photo Gallery I do not use it.
I think that the best thing for you to do is to use the one that works best for your needs. Maybe someone else will come by with an answer about LPG.

That's quite alright. You have helped me plenty. I'll just have to stick to WPV for now while I try to mess around with the settings of LPG.

Thanks!

Why don't you try Microsoft Office Picture Manager and see if that would work for you. It's a GREAT app and if you're using Windows, it's right on your system. I have it set as my default, (so all images automatically open up in this app), and I can not only view my images in any order that I wish, but I can extensively edit them as well.

And of course, no matter what photo app you use, you can always go to another one whenever you wish.

Has anyone been able to set Windows photo viewer sort order? now that it no longer uses the Windows Explorer sort order... I like having a very fast "light" preview for my first draft work on photo slideshows, and WPV was perfect, but if I can't set the preview order, it no longer serves this function!

I definitely don't want/need a robust photo editor (I like the one I have) or a new organizer! But if anyone can recommend a fast preview utility that lets me set the display order, that would be great.

win 7 inages date order

Win 7 Ahhhhg!

Wish they had stayed with XP.
To sort images in DATE order select 'Content Created' Not the obvious 'date created' box. If you have just made the images date order will work, but if the images were transferred from a later date, or another drive later you must use 'content created'. I agree that this is dumb and gets dumber as then you will need to 'Sort' your folder(s) of images into 'Content Created'. This all has to be done to each folder unless some genius has a fix. As a photographer, I have thouseands of folders and sub folder to change.
I hate the folder structure and other things with win 7, but my camera refuses to work with XP.
Hope this makes a tedius life easier.
