Hello Everyone,

This is my first post, and I'm a newbie, so please forgive the non-technical lingo.

I have a Dell Studio Laptop 1558 running Windows 7, and it came with the new 2011 Windows 7 Live Mail. This is supposed to be the newer, fancier version of Windows Live Mail. Unfortunately, I don't like this newer version, and want the older version. Actually I'd rather have OE back, but know that's not possible.

This version has "Quick Access" which I hate. In the old OE there was one "Inbox", one "Sent", one "Draft" etc, etc. and all I had to do was click the "Inbox" and see all my messages at one time. So simple.

Can I get rid of QA or at least rig it to show all my email at once, and not separate them?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Thanks Rich,

I'll try your suggestion. Must be a better way. I've heard of Thunderbird, but also heard not great reviews. Give me back OE! :(

I agree I loved OE, but its gone. If you make a system restore point first, it will be easy to get rid of Thunderbird if you do not like it.
I plan to change my email client, too.

Sorry, one more thing, Rich, what about the older Windows Live---can I download that version instead. I never had that one---came straight from OE to Windows 7 2011. Thanks,

Barb,
Actually because you have been so nice with the rep and all, I feel bad. Just 2 or 3 days ago, here or in the Vista Forum an onther member had the same problem and a link was given for Live Mail. I will try to find it, but so many posts.
Check back, and if I find it or another does, it will be put here.

Bless your heart! Thanks, Rick. I'm actually checking out the link you sent me on the other email programs. Since this particular laptop is so new (1 month) and came with the 2011 version of Live Mail already loaded don't know what I'd restore it to.

Anyway, I'm sure you've got much more important things to do than dig up an old thread for me. If it pops up, love to see it, but if not, no problem. I'll do a little more research. Who knows, by the time I finish I may be in love with 2011.

BTW I tried to click your icon again, but it said I had to "spread the reputation around" before I could give it to you again-----well, since you're my one and only reply, I'm afraid I don't know where it spread.

I know, the system is set up to prevent constant rep by one person. I will try to find that post. If I could only remember how long ago it was.
You should read the descriptions of the various email clients; you may find one that you really like.

I was working on threads trying to solve problems and saw an answer from another member. I realized that he was the one who posted the link for Windows Mail. I went to his file and quickly found it.
Free old version windows live mail Download - old version windows live mail Files

I present this link with the following advice, it is not wise just to download programs from unknown and untested sites. If you feel comfortable with the site, first save the program to a cd or finger drive and then test for malware, with malwarebytes and for virus with your antivirus.

If it were my computer, I would not download anything. There are so many email clients out there that you can use and test, why take a chance.

... what about the older Windows Live---can I download that version instead...
I'm still using that version, but it's the same as 2011 with respect to the multiple sets of folders. What I have done is set up one main pop3 account (containing its default plus optional subfolders) and forward email from the other accounts into it (and its subfolders using rules). Unfortunately, this omits the option of sending mail "from" the other accounts. You can get around that problem by setting them up as IMAP accounts (if your email provider offers that option) so that they will appear in the "from" drop down list for sending mail. The only remaining issue is that the sent mail from all IMAP accounts will show up under the Storage Folder group, while the sent mail from your pop3 account will show up under the pop3 account.

If you want to try the pre-2011 version, here it is:
Web Version Installer – English Language Version
http://g.live.com/1rewlive3/en/wlsetup-web.exe
It has a more classic look than 2011 and may also have fewer bugs.

Rich,

Thanks so much for some good advice. Yes, agree I have to be careful downloading anything. I'll check the site though.

Rocerr,

I appreciate your reply and suggestions. I'm sure in time I could get use to this new one, but every since I saw a series of 5 tutorials on YouTuibe by a guy demonstrating WLM I knew I'd love it since it seemed to be so close to OE at least the face of it.

I just hate the splitting of the email accounts. So used to clicking "Inbox" and reading everything. I'll look at your link also.

Thanks guys so much for your help. Great forum, glad I found it.

Changing keystrokes to symbols

I typed (c) and it got changed to the copyright symbol. Dang, I hate when programs do that. And I can't find any place to prohibit that. Can anyone help? Thanks much.
