Ok, I can't get my new windows 7 installation to run for more than 15 minutes without locking up. The computer stops accepting keyboard and mouse input (the cursor won't even move).

My specs are as follows

GIGABYTE MA78GM-US2H motherboard
AMD dual core athlon 2.5 Ghz
EVGA Nvidia Gforce 9400 GT
WD 1TB green HDD

Since it locks up like this i don't even get an error code, I still have the problem when i am trying safe mode with networking. I have disabled the onboard video card in the BIOS and I am still having this problem.

Thank you,

Steven

Hello Stevedv, & Welcome,

We need more info about your RC x64, I had to install with only 2gb memory on several computers for the first install. Did you burn your .iso at 4x speed ? Was it a good solid error free download ? There are a lot of great members here to help. :)

As far as the its build 7100, as far as the burning, I had to get a friend of mine to handle that, as my internet connection is ridiculously bad. it didn't give me any errors during install though, and my friend used the same disc without issue.

Oh and I forgot to mention I have 4GB of Kingston 1066 DDR2 Ram.

You have to have a MB & bios that is ACPI compliant. Sometimes a bios upgrade works, if you can find one for your MB. I have spent hours & hours of testing, & playing with all the different settings in the bios, till I find a combo that works.

Windows 7 info on ACPI = integrated through ACPI, compliant with ACPI 3.0b specification, including - Ambient light sensors/adaptive brightness
  • ACPI 3.0b compliance
Is your ACPI set in your bios setup ?

NO OVER-Clocking !!!!

The only field i could find in my bios for acpi was acpi suspend type, set to "set suspend type to suspend to ram under acpi os"

I think the RAM should not be Suspended !

System states
The ACPI specification defines the following seven states (so-called global states) which an ACPI-compliant computer system can be in:
  • G0 (S0) Working
  • G1 Sleeping subdivides into the four states S1 through S4.
    • S1: All processor caches are flushed, and the CPU(s) stop executing instructions. Power to the CPU(s) and RAM is maintained; devices that do not indicate they must remain on may be powered down.
    • S2: The CPU is powered off.
    • S3: Commonly referred to as Standby, Sleep, or Suspend to RAM. RAM is still powered.
    • S4: Hibernation. All content of main memory is saved to non-volatile memory such as a hard drive, and is powered down.
  • G2 (S5) Soft Off-- G2, S5, and Soft Off are synonyms. G2 is almost the same as G3 Mechanical Off, but some components remain powered so the computer can "wake" from input from the keyboard, clock, modem, LAN, or USB device.[7]
  • G3 Mechanical Off: The computer's power consumption approaches close to zero, to the point that the power cord can be removed and the system is safe for disassembly (typically, only the real-time clock is running off its own small battery).
Furthermore, a state Legacy is defined as the state when an operating system runs which does not support ACPI. In this state, the hardware and power are not managed via ACPI, effectively disabling ACPI.
