I have the Media Player that came with a Windows 7 upgrade from XP to 7 Home Premium.

My music library is in such a mess, I don't know what to do. I have albums trapped within albums, artists within albums, in different locations all over the place, duplicates here and there, and I don't know of an easy way to get it all sorted out.

Is there any way to completely empty the library and then find music on my computer, even if it is funky locations, and then put those files in the right place? I know it can find stuff and put it in the library, but I want to make sure it's in the right location on the disk in My Music. I feel comfortable moving files around, but in Windows Explorer, sometimes it is really difficult to find the true path of some of the files.

Any suggestions, short of dumping all 5000 songs and ripping them all over again from my 500 cds, will be greatly appreciated.

I hope I've explained it well enough. If not, feel free to ask. I will monitor for the next few hours, but then I'm going to be gone for 3 days, so I'm not ignoring you.

Thanks.

carl

the best way to find a file whilst in wmp is to right click the song and open file location, in the libraries you can add or remove folders but dont delete them from in windows library it will delete from the root folder.
the library will collate shortcuts to your folders and the wmp will load from the library.

Thanks, that helped. I think part of the problem is that I was looking for a path of "My Music", and on the drive, it merely says "Music". Very confusing.
