windows 7 memory limits? speed and capacity?

hey everyone.. im curious if anyone has the numbers for windows 7 memory limits, im using 64 bit ultimate, and i know capacity its capable of some number ive never met a motherboard that could even handle.. but, what about the speed/frequency of the memory? i hear theres a limit somewhere, and faster RAM gets throttled down to match the OS.. is this true? if so, whats the limit?

Memory speed is is controlled by the bios, the ram, cpu, motherboard you have installed before it ever gets to the operating system. I know of no speed limit for ram in Windows 7.

i heard windows itself had a limit, which is less than the limits of the newer motherboards

Okay where did you hear that? Windows 7 Pro has a amount limit of 192 gig but no speed is mentioned any place I have looked.

So far as I'm aware, there are no speed restrictions on modern Windows memory - unlike the older DOS-based Windows 9x series, and possibly Windows NT.
Modern RAM has speeds well exceeding 1332MHz - and even Windows XP will run happily on higher speeds than that.

Not quite true, I'm afraid - DOS was very aware of RAM speed, and had issues with anything that exceeded its parameters.
More recent Windows versions have been less dependent on the hardware.

Not quite true, I'm afraid.
Win9x and DOS were very dependent on RAM speed - but later incarnations are very much more independent of the hardware.

Windows XP and above are not DOS. The Last version of Windows based on DOS was Windows ME. Windows XP and above are based on Windows NT. There is no limitation on the RAM's speed/frequency or any other parameter, except for capacity.
