I am having issues with my right click on the mouse; it hangs for about 5 seconds every time I use it in IE8 but is perfectly ok when right clicking on desktop, in folders, in word etc etc.

I have googled the issue and found that it could be a bad ‘context menu handler’.

It says I should be having these issues:
• There may be a huge delay when you right click on a folder or drive
• Right click item show slowly
• When you select properties in right click nothing happens

I am only experiencing the middle one of those three issues.

It goes on to say to download ‘ShellExView’ (which I did). Then in order to solve the problem disable the non-microsoft context menu from the list one by one and then check if it solves the problem.

I only have two, one AVG and one NVIDIA. I disabled both in turn and that doesn’t solve the problem.

I uninstalled some programs that I downloaded in between the time when I know it worked until I realised it wasn’t but the issue remains. The programs were: flv viewer, orbit downloader & Net transport (an older free version)

I have also done a system restore to a point when I know it was working with no luck.

I have also run AVG & SuperAntiSpyware but they found nothing.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), IE8.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply (and the welcome) A Guy.

Performed clean start as per instructions with no luck. I unchecked 'load startup items' and disabled all non-microsoft services then rebooted.

The problem remained. According to the article, in this situation the interference is not occurring because of a background program or service. In this case, this article cannot resolve your problem

Bugger !!

What I did notice however is that in my right click menu there is still a Net Transport item in there. It says 'Download all by Net Transport'. This is one of the programs that I installed in the period where everything was ok and when I noticed the problem. It was uninstalled and the program is definitely not on my system anymore (well as far as I know anyway).

Could that be relevant to my problem? Or any other ideas?
