Solved Windows 7 new install

Hello,
I have installed Windows 7 64 bit on my PC which was previously running Win 7 32 bit. I notice that the new installation has uploaded 2 Program Files folders, ie; Program Files and Program Filesx86 but many of the subfolders within are of the same names, albeit, some but not all, being smaller or larger respectively.
Why is this and do I need to keep all of them even the identically duplicated ones?

that's normal for x64.

basically, 64bit programs get installed to 'program files', and 32 bit progs go into the other.

this is all automatic when you install software, and works just great.

I was just thinking.... I have a software that finds duplicate files and removes them from the system. So what happens when the scanner finds all the identical files in both the 32bit and 64bit Program Files folders?

you won't have identical files in both folders - or at least you shouldn't!

software will install itself into one or the other - not both.
