Hi
My Packard Bell laptop is not seeing either of it's nework adaptors.

However Device manager reports that both the WiFi and the LAN adaptors are both present and that the drivers are working properly ( I have already deleted them both several tines and reinstalled the Packard Bell Drivers).
I have no disabled services, nor do I seem to have any conflics in Device manager on the normal or the hidden devices list.

The Wireless card can see that my WiFi nework is present but only connects with limites access. I do have MAC filtering on my router, but the MAC address of the WiFi card is on the list. Can't see the MAC address at the moment but that cannot have changed as it is hard coded by the manufacturer.

Using an ethernet connection, the status page shows connected but no data is sent or received which is the same with the wireless card. Nither connection shows any IP information at all.

Going to the 'cmd' window and typeing in ipconfig /all
shows no adaptors, just four lines of text:

Host Name .................. PCName
Primary DNS Suffix .......... (this is blank)
IP Routing Enabled........... No
WINS Enabled ................. No

The properties of both adaptors are avaliable and have been setup, but no joy

Tried to reset the netsh winsock catalogue, but it said I needed administrator privilages to do this, however I am logged on as the administrator.

Pulling my hair out on this one.

How old is the laptop? Drivers is what it sounds like to me that microsoft may have just don't know how your gonna get them though. Just cause device manager says it's all good doesn't mean that their communicating correctly with the operating system.

And welcome to the forum..

Try a system restore to before that point when it stopped working you may get back on track with that hopefully. Do you remember what was going on at the time the problem occurred or what you may have been doing?

The laptop belongs to my young son and I was away when it happned. A system restore might work. I have never really had much luck with S/R in the past.
Cheers

Sounds like the guts were ripped outta the OP system, with nothing showing up on your ipconfig I'd say there were some major problems or maybe some system files are missing or corrupt.

I'd go with a repair installation from the Windows CD, it tends to fix problems liks this.

The permission warning is alarming to me --

Turn off MAC filtering and whatever other encryption you might have on the wireless connection - this will determine several factors... Please restart your modem and router in proper order to start with a fresh connection.

once you've completed unsecuring the connection, has anything changed?

Ie: can you connect? error change? same thing as always?
