I was messing around with the ThemeManager for Windows 7. I had installed and ran several different themes on my computer for a while with no issues, then a couple nights ago I installed and applied a new theme and when I restarted my computer, it gets to the screen where it asks me how I want to start my computer (normally, safe mode, etc) I have tried booting it in every option it give me but all I get is a black screen, the only thing I can see is my cursor.

I do not have a Windows 7 disc and pressing f8 or del do nothing upon startup.

any help would be awesome!

thanks in advance!

Hello Wes, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

If you like, you could download a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium ISO file at the link below, ....

Windows 7 Direct Download Links, Official Disk Images from Digital River

....and create a bootable installation DVD/USB with it.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31541-windows-7-usb-dvd-download-tool.html

Afterwards, boot from the installation DVD/USB to do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before this happened to hopefully undo this issue.

Can I run this from any sub device? Or does it have to be certain kind? Also do I just download and add to my usb device and plug into the computer and reboot? Sorry I've never done this.

No worries. You could download the ISO and create the DVD/USB on any computer, then be able to use the USB/DVD on your computer.

If USB, when finished, connect to your computer, boot your computer, and press the F key displayed to press to boot to the boot menu to select to temporarily boot from the USB instead of Windows.

If DVD, when finished, insert DVD in your computer, restart computer, and when prompted "press any key to boot from CD/DVD".

The system restore link above will give you the details to pick up from there. :)

I do not receive a command key on any of the screens that I go through. Any ideas there?

How about using the DVD after it's created?

I have to push the command key before I can setup the dvd/usb to run right? I am not receiving a command key to go in and switch my settings.

Nope, you would have to create the bootable DVD on another computer first.

Afterwards, when you boot the computer with a bootable DVD in the drive, you should briefly see the "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD.." message like below. You would then press any key to boot from the DVD instead of Windows.

Thank you very much for the quick responses.

It has to be a dvd, correct? I'll head on up to the store if that's the case. Thank you again for the help!

It doesn't have to be a DVD.

You could create a bootable USB flash drive first, then boot from it on your computer instead.

I just thought that a DVD may be easier for you, but either option will be fine. :)

Brink,

I made a bootable DVD, and nothing has changed... I do not receive the window with "press any key to boot from DVD or USB".

I just get the same thing. Black screen with only the cursor, no command keys, nothing. I do not hear my CDROm running until after i receive the black screen. I would also like to know which ISO file you would recommend for my system, in that list of ISO's. Who knows, maybe i downloaded the wrong one..

Once again, thank you for the speedy responses!

I have figured my situation out, turns out, i just needed to find the sweet spot when to press the command key for the startup repair... It did not give a prompt when to push it so it took me about 150 times restarting my comp and pressing F8 at different times, until it finally went to starup repair!

Thanks for the help guys!
