Windows 7 not logging in properly

Hello Seven Forums,

I have a strange problem with my Windows 7 machine, it goes through all the motions of a normal startup until I get to the user login screen and select my profile, the screen says welcome, changes to say preparing your desktop, then the screen goes black for a moment and goes back to the user login screen.

This problem started this morning, my computer had been on sleep all night, and when I tried to wake it up, it gave me this user profile thing, which surprised me because this used to happen only when I did a fresh boot, never after it was snoozing.

I have tried using my admin profile as well, with the same result. Could someone advise me as to how I can get to my desktop? I would greatly appreciate it, it's really annoying!

By the way, this problem has happened before, in fact my computer was out of commission for months, until I fixed it yesterday (or thought I did) and it appeared to be working, that's why I was so surprised when it started up again. Just wanted to make this clear!
