Windows 7 not recalling screen resolution

All was fine until about a week ago, Windows 7 automatically updated itself.....

Now, every time I boot the computer, my monitor is no longer recognised and I get a 'generic' pnp adapter showing poor resolution. When I click on Change Resolution and then 'Detect', it immediately finds the correct monitor and resets the resolution to the right (high) settings, but 'Apply' is greyed-out and on rebooting, the same low resolution problem recurs.....

Is there any way to 'force' Windows 7 to remember the monitor and correct settings, or force it to auto-detect the monitor on start-up?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Toni!,

All you have to do Is go to Start -> Device Manager -> Monitors -> Re install your monitor driver, that should fix it.

Many thanks, but the monitor (Iiyama E2208HDS) uses the generic Win 7 driver - i.e. it doesn't have it's own dedicated driver for this operating system.

I checked the system and it reported that the driver is up-to-date.
