Windows 7 will do it for you - no need for a third party program. Just double click an ISO
Otherwise, as a third party choice, I use Magiciso - very painless!

Sorry for going a bit off-topic here, but i'm confused by the statement above. I'm using build 7000, and if i double-click an iso, the new Windows Disc Image Burner program opens up and prompts me to burn the iso to disc. Right-clicking an iso and selecting Open With only gives me the same option (& WinRAR, which i installed separately). Are you saying that you can also mount an iso with Windows 7? How?

Hello badger, welcome to Se7en Forums!

Have a look at this, is this what you have in mind?

Thanks for the welcome, and the reply! That's not exactly what i meant, though. I'm familiar with the VHD feature, which i think is a great thing for Microsoft to have done.

But, in the quote by davehc that i referenced, he says that you don't need third party software (such as MagicDisc or DaemonTools) to mount an iso... all you need to do is double-click the iso file. I can't find a way to do that via Windows 7 build 7000, and i was just looking for clarification. Thanks.

hey, just a question for you x64 users...what software do you use to mount an iso? I can't seem to find a 64 bit Alcohol 120%, etc. I uninstalled my 64 bit 6801 and went with 32 bit for this reason (well, that and I didn't have a 64 bit Photoshop and Illustrator)...

They don't make a 64bit Illustrator. Photoshop is the only Adobe Creative Suite program available in 64bit. Also you don't need all your programs to be 64bit to benefit, just some of them.

Hello Norm.

Yes it is a good article, thank you. I just thought to point that out to people considering 64-bit, especially as cheap as RAM is now; 8GB of "fast" DDR2 can be had for less than $100.00 US. (with free shipping)
Later ;) Ted

I personally don't think fast and DDR2 belong in the same sentence though :) Thats like calling an ATA133 drive a "fast IDE drive" :P

Um... hehe, no you can't do that. And they don't make sticks over 4GB each. So it would still be at least 2 sticks and laptop and desktops use completely different parts.

A new machine with top of the line parts is going to cost money, that is just fact. Probably at least 1000 to have anything worth running 64bit software on. You can read the specs on mine, I went cheap on it in a couple places and kept it right at 2000.

I have my installation mounted to use Magiciso. If you do not have an iso program installed, winrar, on installation, will default as the main user to OPEN iso's, but not burn them. I do not want to alter my defaults for the moment, so I googled and found this:
iosburn.png

It obviously hasn't been a priority for Microsoft in the past, but it looks like another one of Windows' minor shortcomings has finally been addressed.

Yes, at long last your Microsoft OS will know what to do with an ISO file. While I'm sure none of us are going to forsake our favorite burning applications when and if we do switch to Windows 7, it's nice to see simple, useful features like this being implemented.

The process is so simple, even novice users will be able to burn an image with no trouble. Double-click an ISO, and Windows 7 opens a minimalistic dialog: choose a burner, select whether or not to verify your burn, and burn/cancel.

It works nicely, and it's definitely the kind of simple, functional addition that is making my test drive of Windows 7 an enjoyable one. Look for more Windows 7 updates as we get more time to play work with it!
