Windows 7 Optical Drive Issues

Delete Delete "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Been working on Win7 from saturday, and I never noticed that my Samsung drive was missing

So I checked for the drivers, and they dont exist, then I plugged a Sony drive from my other computer, and even that wouldn't show up in explorer, Device manager would complain about drivers not passing WHQL.

So I fired 7forums, and this was there on the first page for drivers

And yes, the stuff works now.

So, those who are scared of Regedit for some reason, (you shouldn't be here), can use this file : http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/491653/Fix.reg

Or follow this to create your own file:
1) Start notepad
2) Paste the following code in it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

3)File > Save as and type this for filename "fix.reg"
4) save the file where ever you like
5) double click it, or right click it and select merge



Now Restart your computer, and your drives should be there. If not, then the problem is unrelated to this one

I found this on a website when my bluray drive stopped working. Go to this registry address in RegEdit and delete a something on the right called "Upper ____" and "Lower ___" I don't remember exactly, but after i deleted them, i was golden.

Wow thanks! Installed Windows 7 on my ASUS Pro50N laptop, never noticed the drive failed until my dad wanted to burn a DVD. We were desperate and was about to re install!

Thanks for your post! In addition, after you delete the Upper and Lower filters from the registry, you need to go to the Device Manager, uninstall the driver and finally in the Action menu choose 'Scan for hardware changes'. This will re-install the optical drive driver. Hope this helps...

I tried to dual boot windows 7 on my xp system. I changed the bios settings to boot from th cd rom and waited for it to boot from the widows 7 dvd i had inserted...it waited, didn't see the dvd and booted xp from the hdd. I repeated this several times and got the same result. my optical drive is a samsung and the same thing happened with my external drive, also a Samsung!

The shop i bought the win7 dvd from said there were some samsung optical drive issues with win7 dvds...but I can't even get my drives to see there is a dvd there!

Any suggestions?
