Windows 7 or windows 10?

Hello I currently have a lenovo y50 laptop that I installed windows 7 on replacing windows 8 since I prefer that. I am making another partition on my SSD to instal windows 10 technical preview. My main point in making this thread was to ask should I keep win 7 as my default or windows 10 as my default? I'd like to hear some outside thoughts because soon I'd like to have only one partition not two

Win 10 is not final yet, so don't be surprised if you have to do a clean install after it is officially released.
I wouldn't make Win 10 my primary everyday OS right now.

I just installed W10 build 10074 as a clean install in a VMware VM yesterday.
It is working well for me so far.
My opinion it's the best build since the first build.

I had issues with other builds where they did not display correctly in a VMware VM.
I couldn't deal with having a desktop where i had to scroll up/down and left/right to be able to see things.
For that reason i haven't used it much for many weeks/months/builds ...

There's a lot of unknowns, rumors, guessing, ... how things will play out when W10 is final.

I'm not a gamer, so i can't comment on that.

Setup a dual-boot or a VM, so you can see for yourself what you think of W10.

I did the same on my Lenovo G500 laptop, and never went back to Win7. Win10 is the worthy successor to 7 in due time. Meanwhile you can preview it and keep Win7 to compare, choose which you like best now.

I do not like Eight but installed TP in October and have never gone back to Seven, even though I am one of the biggest supporters of Win7 and think it is the finest OS ever but am pleased that it now has an apparent worthy successor.

I think Ten is faster but much more like Seven, gives a side of the restored Start menu to try Apps and if they grow on you (like some have with me) then the Start menu can itself grow to accommodate them.

Right now I have Mail, News, Weather, Skype and Calendar apps updating their latest content on these live Tiles, some of which I've made larger to receive more information. I also get new Mail popups from the System tray, all of my webmail popped into the new Mall App which has a large reading pane and no ads.

Which ever you think will be default 10 will over ride that choice to it's self being default after each update that needs a restart,

I would not suggest dual booting like that on another partition,
Use a totally separate hdd or sdd for 10tp or use a virtual machine environment to take a test run using VMware where removing 10tp is easy.

I agree there's not much to see in 10tp at this point = unless you just like bugs in your os

I believe win-8.1 is better than 10tp.

W10 will offer DX12, W7 won't. That's the difference. In a few months maybe when W10 is at RTM upgrade by all means if you like but for the time being I'd stick with 7 then upgrade to 10 if you want to when the free upgrade comes round. 10 is far from stable at the moment and I wouldn't consider it as my sole OS.

I'm a staunch W7 supporter and will use it until the bitter end, but W10 has the potential to be a great OS.

I think Windows 10 will be nice, especially for the home user. Every new version is truly more secure for novices. For business? Probably Windows 7.

I'm using a VM with VMware Player (in Linux Mint 17.1).

We don't know you OS preferences, so the only way you can be sure, is to try it out for yourself.
