Hi All,

This is my first posting, I hope some kind tech person can help me:

And before anyone says 'try Adobe support'.......well I have bounced from page to page on the Adobe web in a desperate attempt to get help. I rang Adobe support from my workplace and was advised they could only offer assistance between 9am & 5pm monday to friday. I work 9am to 5pm monday to friday, so dont' stand a snowballs chance in hell of getting assitance there.

So here is my problem: I have tried to install photoshop cs5, but recieve the following error message:

Error 1402.Could not open key: UNKNOWN\Components\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\EE3C5F35DE50038499B4052B0F5DF0EC. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
Action ended 19:01:19: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.

I have studied and tried to do what Adobe state on their web site (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404622.html) to deal with this error, because they say it's a permissions problem.

I followed it step by step, but I still cannot get the software to install, I've only had Windows 7 for a couple of months, so don't know the in's & outs like I did with windows XP.

Has anyone elso has this problem? Can anyone shed any light on how to get this software installed and running, other wise I'm gonna be left with a very expensive coaster!!!!!!

Thanks in advance to any who can help

:)

Welcome to Seven Forums SMARTIE RULES. The link to their webpage with fix isn't found so these things may have been covered.

1st I'd try to turn off any security programs, AV, firewall, AntiSpyware. Make sure you right click the installer and Run as Administator. I'm going to assume you are trying to install from a User w/ admin privlidges.

If no help, boot to safe mode and see if it will install from there (some applications cannot be installed from safe mode).

Hi Guy,
This is the web address where it speaks about pemissions issues: Error 1401, 1402, 1404 or 1406 during installation of Creative Suite 4 or 5 products on Windows

I followed it to the letter, but still cannot seem to install the software. Although if I were to check the registry now, I wouldn't see the registry key 'components', but after it fails the installation, I can check the registry again, and the registry key 'components' is visable. At this point I can change the permissions, but it doesn't seem to work. As regards running as administrator, I am the only one who uses this pc, no guests, no one else accesses it, and I have full administrator rights as per 'user accounts'.

BTW, I have tried to install under safe mode, but that failed also. I tried switching off any programs running in the background by opening task manager, clicked on applications to make sure none are running, clicked on processes and clicked on 'show processes from all users', then clicked 'end process' so that only the necessary stuff was running. I then ran photoshop cs5 installation again, and it failed again.

So I honestly don't know what to do now. Does any one here know anyone who works for Adobe who could spare a bit of time to help me out? :D before I got batty that is

Thanks guy

Right, I have finally got it installed & running

I downloaded and install both of the following:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/confirmation.aspx?familyId=bd512d9e-43c8-4 655-81bf-9350143d5867&displayLang=en (x64)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=a7b7a05e -6de6-4d3a-a423-37bf0912db84 (x86)

My original error was:

Error 1402.Could not open key: UNKNOWN\*Components*\DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8\EE3C5F35DE50038499B4052B0F5 DF0EC. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

And this is what I did:

I installed both downloads from Microsoft, and then went searching in the registry till I finally found the error key listed in the failed installation log, it was under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\INSTALLER\USERDATA\S-1-5-18\COMPONENTS
I then searched the list for the key:DA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8

Then I entered the permissions tab and changed it to full control,

I then attempted another install of Photoshop CS5 and finally it reached 100% and now works fine.

I must thank all who commented, putting me in the right direction and also others threads which helped with the microsoft visual basic info, installation advice and finally being able to use photoshop cs5.

You're a brilliant bunch, and I have a software program that works , rather than an expensive coaster!!! :D

Glad to hear you got it working Smarty, I'm not too surprized to see that registry permissions are causing problems because there are so many of them.

Of course if the registry didn't need permissions people would complain that it's not secure enough.

Microsoft will probably be pushing a "shim" update for this in the future, that will allow the installer rights to the reg key it wants.
