Hi All

Its my first time posting her and of course I need some help please.

I am using Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

My problem started when I tried to backup my Firefox Profile Folder and my backup software would not backup one specific file ie "signons-sqlite".

This file is the login password repository for Firefox password manager.

I then tried to copy and paste this file but I received the following message:

"File access denied. You require permissions from "ABCD\PC\ABCD" (exact name changed) to make changes to this file.

I have read extensively on the web about changing permissions on files and folders, but I seem to be going round in circles. The above user name is already granted permissions. So I am struggling.

I have tried the following Registry Tweaks which do not work:

Take Ownership

GrantAdminFullControl

Anyone help here please

Thanks

Terry

Did you enable the software encryption device in Firefox? If you did, try disabling it then copying the file again.

Also, check your services list to see if you have a SQL server running, if you do, stop it and try copying the file again.

Hi Ryo Senior Member & Rei Tumult

Thanks for ur replies.

First, at login I have only one option at login which isn my user name.!

Second, I could not find anything in Firefox that resembled Software Encryption Device.

Could you both shed a bit more light, as I said i am inexperienced.

Thanks

Terry

Well my line of thought was that the file is in use or encrypted, maybe leading to this problem, but it's just a long shot

To check if you enabled the Firefox encryption goto:
Tools > options > Advanced > Security Devices

It will tell you there if you enabled encryption on your password database. If it says that it is disabled or not active, then side of things is fine.

Also, if you type the following into the Firefox address bar:
about:cache

Under 'Disk cache device' will be 'Cache Directory'
It will point to a home folder for your Firefox profile(s), for example my profile folder is located in: C:\Users\USERNAMEABCD...\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

That's where you are trying to copy the profile folder from? or are you copying from another directory? Can you copy the profile folder from there?

As far as SQL goes... go to the start menu, click run, then type the following: services.msc, next click ok

Check the list to see if it lists any installed SQL servers. If there is one, stop its service and then try to copy the Firefox profile folder. You can always restart the SQL service again afterwards.
