Windows 7 Premium 64-bit, "800B01000" Error Code, SP1 Install.

All of my computer updates have worked like a charm for me, except for Service Pack 1. It says it's always "downloaded", but it never actually succeeds on the installation process. The error code "800B0100" is something I have stuck in my memory, :(. So, I've tried ALL of Windows's fixes, with no result yet. Windows Readiness Tool doesn't work. I even had to do a factory reset once, due to a problem… guess what? Still SP1 problems. All other updates download and get installed ASAP, but this Service Pack 1 is really making me think something's wrong with my laptop.

So, any idea why the update doesn't work? I've scanned my laptop several times, full scans, high heuristics, scanning PUP's, and even scans before boot, and a healthy laptop. No problem with anything, except no SP1.

Dear BZK121,
Run the System Readiness Update Tool. The tool creates CheckSur.log report in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder. Kindly post it. The log will provide information as to what has gone wrong.

Regards,

Download and install the tool from Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2

"Note The System Update Readiness Tool scans for inconsistencies in your computer, while it is being installed. It typically takes less than 15 minutes to run the scan, however, the tool might take significantly longer on some environments. Although the progress bar may appear to stop, the scan is still running and you should not cancel the update."

Re Error Code 0x800B0100

* Have you a System Restore Point created prior to any problems you are now experiencing that you could roll back to?

* Have you checked in Event Viewer ?
Start - Event Viewer - Windows Logs - System & Application.
Check for any red error messages to do with each KB problem.

*What is listed {as regards your problem} in Windows Update - View Update History.

*Clean out App data / local / temp.
Start - Run - type in %temp% - ok - organize - select all - organize - delete { note you may be asked to skip some - that is ok}

*FYI.

It's almost always the language packs

I've done all of the items listed here and other places, but still no luck. What finally did it for me was uninstalling all of the language packs. Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Keyboards and Languages tab -> Install/Uninstall Languages button.

Every topic I seemed to find on this talked about an error executing on one language pack or another during the SP update. I uninstalled the first language that gave me an error in my logfile, but then another language gave me one. So I just uninstalled them all, and SP1 went without a hitch.

I don't know if the other things people list to try (troubleshooter, readiness tool, renaming system folders, etc.) are necessary... I did them first, but they didn't work. So try the language packs, and if that doesn't work, try all the other suggestions.

HTH,
James
